Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 5th October

There was a total entry of 8,232 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep on offer with a good company of buyers in attendance for all types.

Store Lambs
There were 6,346 store lambs on offer which saw a firmer trade, seeing a top price of £141 for Suffolk ewe lambs sold in the store lamb section, from Philip Heath of Bradnop, with other Suffolk ewe lambs in the same section at £138 for Messrs Hayward of Chapel en le Frith, and £131 from the same vendor. Suffolk mixed lambs, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield, achieved up to £115 with another pen at £114.50 from Messrs Hayward of Chapel en le Frith and £111 from Messrs Belfield of Macclesfield Forest.

Texel mixed lambs, from Messrs Brown of Biddulph Moor, sold up to £128 with £127 for Texels from S Burford of Glossop and £126 for Texels from Andrew Carr & Family of Waterfall.
Texels, from Steven Beresford, Wildboarclough, sold at £124 with Texel ewe lambs, from Geoff Nutter of Grindon, at £121 and £110 from Messrs Taylor of Hollington.

There were several other pens of Texels over £100.

Zwartble lambs, from Messrs Taylor of Packmoor, sold up to £110.50 with Lleyn lambs, from Clive Grindey of Adlington, selling well at £108 and Charollais, from Messrs Archer of Elkstones, up to £106 and £105.50 from Clive Grindey of Adlington.

Beltex lambs, from T Etches of Longnor, topped at £104 with Dorsets up to £104 also, from Messrs Maltby of Bakewell.

Oxford lambs, from R & M Phillips & Sons of Ladmanlow achieved up to £98 with £97.50 being paid for another pen from John Barber of Quarnford and Aberfield lambs, from David Torr of Ilam, achieved up to £95.

Mule wether lambs, from D Wainwright of Cold Eaton, sold up to £94.50 with others from J Burrows of Macclesfield at £94 and £93 from Brad Hunter of Quarnford.

There was a particularly strong trade for some good shaped medium term store lambs with the overall average achieved being £92.75.

Ewe Lambs
There were 778 breeding ewe lambs which again were dearer, seeing a pen of Texels from S & D Fearn of Wardlow Mires at £152 with other Texel ewe lambs from Danny H

olland of Blore at £151, £150 from Messrs Lowe of Hulme End, other pens at £150 from Messrs Fearn of Wardlow Mires and another pen from Messrs Lowe of Hulme End.


Several other pens of Texel ewe lambs sold above £140.

Mule ewe lambs from, Geoff Tunnicliffe & Family of Quarnford, sold up to £142 and £140, with Suffolk ewe lambs from David Benbow of Eccleshall at £137 and £136.

Aberfield ewe lambs from D Bailey of Buxton sold up to £134 with Millenium ewe lambs from the same vendor at £140.

Average for ewe lambs was a pleasing £125.11.

Shearlings
There were 772 shearlings on offer seeing a top price of £258 for a pen of Mule shearlings from Messrs Klucznik of Ipstones Edge with other Mule shearlings, from the same vendor, at £225 with Welsh Mules, from Philip Williams of Tean at £215 and £210.

Texel ewe lambs from Messrs Morten of Barmoor Clough sold up to £252 and £240 with another pen of Texel shearlings, from Messrs Klucznik of Ipstones Edge at £240 and a pen from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough at £235.

Cheviot shearlings, from Messrs Lowe of Thorncliffe sold up to £230 with Suffolk shearlings from PJ Pennington of Chisworth at £180 and Aberfield shearlings from T Robinson of Warslow at £165 with Zwartbles selling up to £155 for Messrs Klucznik of Ipstones Edge.

The average for shearlings was £175.15.

Ewes
There were 333breeding ewes which topped at £175 for Texel ewes for Messrs Torr of Macclesfield with other Texels at £165 for Messrs Hardy of Cauldon Lowe, Mules for Messrs Hammersley of Farewell, Cheviots up to £142 for Messrs Staples of Hollinsclough and Mules from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield at £141.

The average for ewes was £113.07.
