Store and Breeding Pigs Sale Report 8th October

92 head of pig on offer today with those best pigs met with strong demand whatever the size. Plainer sorts are still hard to place with the rising feed costs having a clear affect on prices.

Breeding pigs (15)
More breeding pigs on offer with quality forward varied. Best sorts were met with good demand. Top Prices of the day £175 for an in-pig Saddleback Gilt from S Bowers, Twemlow. A large white breeding boar from A & J Richardson, Byley achieved £105. A white breeding sow from S Proctor, Longnor achieved £100, with two saddleback sows from the same home achieving £80/head.

Fat Pigs (10) Average £64
10 Fat pigs on offer achieved £60/head for a pen of 6 and £70/head for a pen of 4 from P Shaw, Burton-on-Trent.

Store pigs (33) Average £22.25
Best store pigs demanded a good price today with those plainer feeding types much harder to place, the rise in feed costs were very much evident today. Top Price £70 for a pen of 6 white pigs weighing 50kg from A & J Richardson, Byley. Much plainer feeding types were very hard to place generally between £10-£20.

Weaners (34) Average £25.94
Weaners a sharper trade with much better quality on offer. Top price £42 for a pen of 30kg white pigs from M Alcock, Ashbourne. A Worth Marton had a pen of 8 weighing 14.5kg and a pen of 7 weighing 13.5kg achieved £40 and £35. Plainer coloured sorts around the £10 mark.
