Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 14th December

There was a total entry of 2,922 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep on offer with trade very similar for Store Lambs although there was a higher percentage of smaller long-term lambs on offer which were, as anticipated, more difficult to place.

Store Lambs
There were 2,822 store lambs in total which topped at £139 paid for a pen of Charollais lambs from Messrs Walker of Matlock with Texel lambs, from JB Rowlinson & Sons of Ramshorn also making £139 and other Texel lambs at £136.50 from Morson Bros of Hartington, £134 from Mark Rowlinson and £132 from John Sadler of Walsall.

There were other Texel lambs over £125/head with Beltex lambs from Mark Rowlinson up to £128 and £122.50 from JP Clewlow of Leek.

Suffolk lambs from Longden Bros of Chinley were well sold up to £125 with Cheviot lambs, from David Naylor of Glossop topping at £124.There was another pen of Suffolks from Ros Worthington of Edale at £119.

Romney lambs, from Messrs Cooper of Mobberley, topped at £105 with Gritstone lambs from HD Agriculture of Brown Edge at £99 and Mule lambs, from David Torr of Ilam, up to £97.

The overall average achieved for store lambs was £92.72.

Breeding Sheep
There was only a small entry of breeding sheep with Ewe lambs topping at £122 for Texel X Beltex (twice) from Mr Rushton of Freehay, with other Ewe lambs from Messrs Briand of Bagnall at £116.

In-lamb Texel and Cheviot Ewes, from Messrs Walker of Eccleshall, topped at £100.

The remainder of the entry were grazing ewes which sold up to £185 for Texel full mouth ewes from Messrs Slater of Matlock with other Texels at £148 (twice) and Mules up to £111.
