There was 5,698 Store and Breeding Sheep on offer with an excellent trade in all sections with vendors being well pleased with sale prices achieved.
Store Lambs (3788);
Store lambs returned an overall average of £87.90 with 3,788 on offer on a total clearance seeing a top price of £116 for a pen of Suffolk ewe lambs from Steven Beresford of Wildboarclough with other Suffolk ewe lambs from John Hine of Biddulph at £108 for a pen 10 and a pen of 15 from Philip Hooley of Wildboarclough at £108 also.
Charolais mixed lambs from J Haigh of Hatton were well sold up to £106 with others at £98 from Alicia Fallow, Field. Texel mixed lambs from Shirley Ridgeway of New Mills topped at £105 with lambs from Jane Barker of Onecote at £103. Messrs Slater of Mayfield at £102 and Gilbert Matkin of Kirk Ireton at £102 also together with Ian Currington of Biggin by Hartington at £102 with Sarah Lloyd of Ipstones and David Naylor of Castleton selling Texel lambs for £101.
There were several other pens of Texel lambs in excess of £95.
Mule Wether lambs were a strong trade selling up to £102.50 from Mr Fox of Buxton.
Suffolk mixed lambs from Philip Hooley of Wildboarclough topped at £100 with a pen from P & M Heywood & Son of Chapel en le Frith at £98 and a pen from Mr Wainwright of Pott Shrigley at £95.50.
Long term lambs looked particularly well sold with an average of £87.90 overall.
Ewe Lambs (191);
A small entry for the first sale ahead of next sales Show & Sale for Ewe Lambs. Trade was solid throughout with some good types forward topping at £158 for some excellent Jacob x lambs from Simon Hambleton, Calton, with a run of Texels at £134 twice for S & D Fearn, Wardlow with other Texel’s selling to £122 for a pen of 10 from Frank Lomas, Peak Forest, £120 and £114 for Shirley Ridgeway, New Mills and £118p/kg for a pen from Adam Shaw, Sturston.
Suffolks topped at £111 for GA & SM Wainwright, Bamford, Cheviots to £110 for Adam Shaw and £108 for GA & SM Wainwright.
Mule Ewe Lambs sold to £108 for GA & SM Wainwright.
Overall average of £112.06.
Shearing Ewes (1451);
A very good trade for Shearlings, albeit a little harder to place for less quality sorts.
Top price of £222 for 4 Suffolks from Ben Jones, Idridgehay, with other Suffolk Shearlings (1st & 2nd in the Show) up to £188 and £175 for A & K Farming, Heaton.
An excellent entry of Texels this Saturday with the best pen topping at £205 for E Morten & Son, Barmoor Clough who won the show with another pen at £202 and had a run at £198, £172 and £170 x3. The 2nd class pen realised £195 for Callum Banks, Clayton, who also sold a pair of Beltex shearlings for £200. Numerous pens of continentals £165 plus.
North Country Mules sold up to £208 for the 2nd Class pen shown by Jim & Carol Hudson, Wetton who went on to sell another pen for £206. Others sold to £188 for J & GJ Fryer, Horton who had another pen at £182. The 1st Class pen sold for £178 for GC & GR Greaves and numerous pens £160 plus.
Cheviots topped at £215 for A T Cooper, Bradfield with Cheviots being very much sought after with the 1st Place ‘Any other Hill’ pen of Cheviot Mules at £200 for Ian Gregory, Peak Forest, and 2nd place at £185 for a pen from G Bonsall, Slindon.
Welsh Mules topped at £195 for the 1st class pen from Philip Williams, Tean and the 2nd class pen sold for £195 shown by Ian Gregory, Peak Forest. Beulah Shearlings from P Williams sold for £192 and £180.
Overall average of £153.30 for the Shearlings.
Ewes (268);
A good entry for the first sale and a very mixed sample forward.
Top price was £163 and £162 for two pens of 2-Crop Suffolks from R H Stubbs, Hopton. Mules sold to £120 for a mixed age pen from Frank Lomas, with a pen of 17 mules at £111 for S Beresford, Wildboarclough, who sold other ewes at £102, £100 and £95.
Texel x ewes topped at £102 from S Foxley, Hinstock and £101 for G & RV Cooper.
