There were 607 head of cattle on offer selling on electric trade throughout. A good number of buyers were in attendance around the sale ring.
Breeding Section
18 cows with calves on offer, with best sorts selling well, average on the week £1,120.56.
Cows and calves sold well topping at £1590 for Limousin cow with a Simmental calf at foot from J&B Proudlove, Whitmoor, who also sold a Hereford cow and Simmental calf at £1,220. Other top prices included a Simmental cow with a Charolais calf to £1450 from S Kidd Farmers, Buxton, who also had a Simmental Cow and Charolais calf to £1340. J W Hudson, Ipstones had nice run of Limousin cows with Simmental calves returning £1270 twice and £1260.
There was a strong trade throughout for in-calf cows. A Limousin cow which had been running with the Limousin bull achieved £1,560 from A Sayer, Stone, a Limousin cow which had also been running with the same bull fetched £ 1,240.
Stock Bulls
Stock Bulls in good demand today averaging £1,400 for the 5 on offer. Top price for a 18-month Simmental bull achieving £1,620, from CW & BM Hudson, Barrowmoor. A 26-month blonde bull from EJ & VC Gilman Buglawton achieved £1,500. Two Simmental bulls at 28 and 30 months achieved £1,500 and £1,380. A Longhorn bull from C Wardle, Sandbach fetched £1,000.
Young Bulls
A good entry of Young Bulls with 38 on offer averaging £745.92 per head up considerably from the last sale. Top prices included a 14-month Limousin bull achieving £1,210 from A Sayer, Stone, whom also has a 12-months Limousin bull to £1,140. Two 14-month Charolais bulls achieved £975 each from J A Clowes & Sons, Cubley.
Steers
282 head of steers on offer selling on very good trade, average £893.72 per head. Top price from J W Hudson, Ipstones, for 2 Limousin 24-month steers fetching £1,485 per head. Other top prices included £1,450 for a 17-month Limousin steer from WS & RM Woodroffe, Draycott. Two 19-month Limousin steers from The Red Lion Inn, Dayhills achieved £1,445. A 28-month Hereford steer achieved £1,430 from ET Simpson, Winkhill.
A 14-months Simmental steer achieved £1370 from PR Gerrard, Stoke-on-Trent.
Heifers
221 heifers on offer selling on good trade averaging £845.68 per head. Top price from J W Hudson Ipstones, for 2 Limousin 29-month heifers achieving £1,485, another Limousin heifer from the same home fetched £1,465, with another fetching £1,360 and trio fetching £1,345 per head. A 33-month British Blue heifer achieved £1,385 from J & R Potts, Macclesfield, a 29-month shorthorn heifer made £1,280 from the same home. A 24-month Simmental from Robertson & Partners made £1,380. Two 17-month Charolais fetched £1,295 and £1,240 respectively from R Worthington, Hope Valley.
