There was an excellent entry of 719 Store and Breeding cattle on offer with a marvellous trade throughout seeing some new record prices for Store cattle as detailed below.
Breeding Section
There was a good show in the Breeding section with a Blonde cow with a Blonde heifer calf at foot from Mr Bilsborrow of Chelford realising up to £1460 with Mr Radford of Longnor achieving £1390 for a Blonde heifer with a young Blonde heifer calf at foot.
In calf cattle sold up to £1195 and £1170 for a Charolais and a Limousin from Mr Radford of Longnor with a 4 year old Limousin cow from The Estate of F R Alcock of Cheadle selling well at £1470 and another one from the same home at £1400.
A 22 month old Charolais bulling heifer from Messrs Whilock of Werrington was well sold at £1150.
Young Bulls
Top price was £850 for a 9 month old Limousin from the estate of F R Alcock of Cheadle with a 13 month old Charolais bull from J A Clowes & Sons of Ashbourne at £820 and a 9 month old Angus again from the estate of F R Alcock at £790.
Overall average achieved for young bulls was £652.63.
Steers
There were 364 steers on offer with a record price of £1800 being paid for a pair of 24 month old Charolais steers from Malcolm Ollerenshaw of Hope Valley with a 23 month old Limousin steer from the same vendor at £1760 and a pair of 25 month old Simmentals at £1640 and another pair of 24 month old Charolais at £1555. A 25 month old Simmental steer, again from Malcolm Ollerenshaw exchanged hands for £1525.
A pair of 22 month old Simmentals from Bottom Lane Farm, Ipstones sold for £1475 with another one from the same vendor at £1450 of similar age. Beef Shorthorn steers from David Watkins at 20 months of age sold for £1310 with a bunch of 3, 21 month old Limousin steers from Peter Richardson of Ipstones selling well at £1300.
A Charolais steer at 20 months of age from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington sold for £1270 with another 25 month old Charolais at £1230 from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone.
Limousin steers from Amy Seabridge of Hollywood at 23 months of age sold up to £1235 with Angus steers from Peter Salt of Whiston at 18 months of age selling well for £1230 and another 20 month old Angus steer from H & R Nash of Marchington at £1230 and a pair of 20 month old from the same vendor at £1215.
Hereford steers from Beryl Kirkham at 27 months of age topped at £1210 with British Blue steers at 21 months of age from CW Pearce & Partners of Draycott at £1190 and a single 21 month old British Blue steer from C C & W Harding of New Chapel selling well at £1170.
A pair of 19 month old Shorthorn steers from GR & RF Norbury of Monks Heath achieved £1110.
Younger cattle sold up to £1110 for a pair of 11 month old Limousin steers from Robert Flower with a pair of 13 month old Angus steers at £1170 for AE Allcock of Waterhouses and a bunch of 6, 12 month old British Blue steers from CC & W Harding of New Chapel up to £1030.
6, 11 month old Angus steers from A E Allcock of Waterhouses exchanged hands for £1000 with 4 Simmental steers at 11 months of age at £980 from Messrs Bower of Hollingworth.
A pair of 12 month old Limousin steers from J J Watson of Marple Bridge, achieved £980.
Overall average achieved for steers was a very pleasing £878.14.
Heifers
There were 300 heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1485 for a 22 month old Charolais from R J Hall of Needwood with a pair of 21 month old Angus from Bottom Lane Farm at £1365 and another pair of 20 month old Angus from H & R Nash of Uttoxeter at £1190. Simmental heifers at 24 months of age sold up to £1305 from MJ Brassington and Sons of Hilderstone with others at 22 months of age from the same vendor at £1275.
Shorthorn heifers from David Watkins sold up to £1280 at 26 months of age with Charolais heifers from H & R Nash of Marchington at £1275 at 18 months of age and a pair of 27 month old British Blue heifers from Beryl Kirkham at £1265.
Other Limousin heifers at 22 months of age from J Pudsey of Quarnford exchanged hands at £1235 with Hereford heifers up to £1165 for a 23 month old Heifer from Beryl Kirkham and a bunch of 5, 21 month old Simmental heifers from M J Brassington and son at £1155.
Younger heifers sold up to £1100 for a 11 month old Limousin from Andrew and Tim Carr with another pair of 11 month old Limousin heifers from the same vendor at £945 and a pair from Robert Flower at 10 months of age at £930.
Overall average achieved for heifers was again, a pleasing £842.96.
