There were 568 store and breeding cattle on offer with another excellent trade in all sections.
Breeding Section
There was a shortage of breeding cattle with in-calf Limousin cows from Richard Timmis of Hilderstone, due to the Hereford, selling well for £1700 and two in-calf heifers, sold by Brian Wainwright, at 22- and 25-months of age, realising £1500 and £1380.
Stock Bulls
A pure-bred Limousin stock bull from Mr Moss of Congleton, at 28 months of age, being well sold at £1800.
Young Bulls
In the young bulls section, the top price paid was £1390 for a 16 month old Hereford, from Mr Edge of Lach Dennis, with a 16 month old Simmental from Richard Stubbs at £1380, and a 16 month old Hereford from D & V Farms Ltd of Rushton at £1330.
Steers
There were 272 steers on offer returning a marvellous average of £1384.39 seeing a top price this week of £2280 for a 19-month-old Limousin, from Steve Machin of Stanley, with another pair of 20-month-old Limousin from the same vendor at £2100 and a 27-month-old Limousin, from James Swindells of Leek, at £1995. Sally Ollerenshaw from Bradwell, realised up to £1900 for 20-month-old Limousin steers.
A Simmental steer, from the same vendor, Sally Ollerenshaw, at 19 months of age, sold particularly well for £2280 with a pair of 22-month-old Simmental, from The Richardson family of Ipstones, selling up to £1975 and a pair of 15-month-old Simmental from J M Robinson of Swythamley at £1940. James Swindells also sold a bunch of three 22-month-old Simmental for £1940.
Charolais steers from Arthur Swinson of Gawsworth, at 21 months old, topped at £2190 with a 17-month-old Charolais from Martin Lancaster of Congelton at £2060 and a single 23-month-old Charolais from James Swindells at £1975.
Hereford steers from Steve Machin of Stanley, at 24 months old, topped at £1990 with a 23-month-old Hereford from Sally Ollerenshaw at £1920.
Aberdeen Angus steers from Arthur Swinson of Gawsworth, at 24 months old, topped at £1980 with a bunch of three 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from the same vendor, at £1940 and a pair of 20-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Peter Salt of Whiston, at £1940 also. Dave Edge of Lach Dennis achieved up to £1880 for 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers with the same price being paid for a 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Jack Greatbach of Wetley Rocks.
Saler steers from Arthur Swinson at 29 months old sold up to £1830 with British Blue steers topping at £1735, at 22 months of age, again, from Arthur Swinson.
Flekvieh steers from The Mollatt Partnership of Uttoxeter, at 16 months of age, sold for £1460 with Friesian steers from Bill Carbutt and family at 26 months of age up to £1390.
Younger cattle achieved up to £1455 for 11-month-old Limousin from Ian Mardling and family of Hilderstone with a pair of 12-month-old Limousin steers from Messrs Moss of Rushton at £1450 and a pair of 8-month-old Limousin steers from Andrew Carr and Family of Waterfall at £1390.
Heifers
There were 284 heifers on offer which topped at £2085 for a pair of 23-month-old Limousin from Steve Machin of Stanley, who sold another pair of 21-month-old Limousin for £1950 and a single at 23 months of age at £1900. £1900 was also paid for a bunch of three from Robert and Mark Phillips and Family of Buxton.
British Blue heifers from Steve Machin, at 27 months of age, sold up to £1900 with another 27-month-old British Blue heifer, from Alcock Bros of Ford, at £1870.
Simmental heifers from PJ Stephens of Mottram, at 24 months old, topped at £1875 with another from James Swindells, at 23 months of age, at £1825 with Aberdeen Angus at 24 months of age, from Joseph Torr Ltd, at £1770 and £1595 for a pair of 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus from DJ Gregory of Drointon.
Holstein heifers sold as non-breeders from Barry Fallows and family of Cheadle topped at £1670 at 28 months of age.
Younger cattle included a pair of 11-month-old Limousin heifers from Ian Mardling and family at £1475 with another pair of 11-month-old Limousin, from Des Alcock of Elkstones, at £1400 and a bunch of three 10-month-old Limousin from Andrew Carr and family at £1390.
15-month-old Charolais from Ros Worthington of Edale sold up to £1500.
British Blue heifers from Messrs Etches of Elkstones topped at £1270 and a bunch of seven 11-month-old British Blue heifers, from A Mitchell & Son of Knutsford, were selling for £1270.
The overall average for heifers was a pleasing £1188.
