Store Cattle Sale Report 15th March

An excellent entry of 664 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer and yet another remarkable trade for all types of cattle. Buyers were in attendance from a wide area.

Breeding Section
In the breeding section there were more suckler cows on offer with a herd dispersal on behalf of the Estate of John Fernyhough from Longstone realising up to £1550 for an In-calf Hereford cow with others from the same vendor at £1405, £1375 and £1340.

A British Blue cow with a young heifer calf at foot from Johnathon Greatbach of Wetley Rocks gave a top price of £2010 with Hereford in-calf suckler cows from the same vendor at £1650 and £1450.

Feeding cows from Dennis Jeffery of Roston were bid for very keenly and achieved up to £1875 and £1640.
Three other feeding cows from David Naylor of Glossop achieved up to £1750 for an Aberdeen Angus and £1260 for a Limousin.

In-calf suckler cows from Chris Gabbott & Family of Rainow achieved a top price of £1490 for a Charolais.

Breeding heifers from Brian Wainwright, being PD’d in-calf, topped at £1460 for a British Blue.

Stock Bulls
A 24-month-old Simmental Pedigree stock bull from Messrs Goddard of Glossop achieved £2430 with a 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus bull from Adam Scott of Buglawton at £1650.

Young Bulls
The young bulls topped at £1005 for a 10-month-old British Blue from Messrs Bassett of Hartington with a 13-month-old Hereford from Messrs Gould of Waterhouses at £970, a pair of 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus for Messrs Timperley of Hyde at £865 and younger 5-month-old Hereford bulls from Tom Johnson of Bosley at £765.

Steers
There were 327 steers on offer and trade was on fire once again.

A 25-month-old Limousin topped the day at £2340 for Steve Machin of Stanley, who also had a 24-month-old Limousin to £2170 with PJ Stephens of Mottram having a 22-month-old Limousin to £2200 and a 24-month-old Limousin to £2180 for the same vendor.

Aberdeen Angus at 22 months old sold to £2320 for RJ & JM Hall of Burton with G Redfern of Onecote achieving £2210 for his 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus, others sold to £2090, at 22 months old, for Steve Machin of Stanley and a bunch of three sold to £2070, at 22 months old, for A Swinson of Gawsworth.

Simmental steers from PJ Stephens of Mottram sold up to £2250 at 25 months of age with 18-month-old Simmental steers, from RA & KD Day of Cheddleton, achieving £2060.

Two Hereford steers at 19 months of age sold to £2110 for A Turnock & Sons of Horton with a 22-month-old Hereford achieving £2100 for A Swinson of Gawsworth, British Blue steers for MJD Farms achieved £2110 at 18 months old and two British Blue steers achieved £2020, at 21 months of age, for PW Gerrard of Combridge. Three British Blue steers at 19 months of age achieved £2010 for JG Curtis of Basford.

Charolais steers at 21 months of age achieved up to £2090 for A Swinson of Gawsworth.

Younger cattle sold exceptionally well with a 10-month-old British Blue steer from Robert Flower of Alstonefield achieving £1770 and a bunch of four 12-month-old Limousin also achieving £1770 from RA & CW Bentley of Church Broughton. A 9-month-old Limousin from Robert Flower of Alstonefield achieved £1650.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1434.33.

Heifers
There were 297 heifers on offer with a smart Limousin at 21 months of age topping the market at £2500 for J G Machin of Stanley, Steve Machin of Stanley also had a Limousin heifer, at 25 months of age, achieving £2260, other Limousin sold to £2140, at 22 months of age, for CE Lake of Whitgreave.

Aberdeen Angus, at 22 months of age, sold to £2170 for PF Hulse of Consall, £1990 for M & G Clowes of Kingsley, at 18 months of age and £1950 for A M Gray of Dungworth, at 23 months old.

A 31-month-old Friesian sold particularly well for D & EA Jeffery of Roston to achieve £1980.

British Blue heifers, at 26 months old, achieved £1980 for Steve Machin of Stanley and £1970 for 25-month-old British Blue heifers, from Philip Brown of Bagnall.

Simmental heifers from RA & KD Day of Cheddleton sold to £1920 at 22 months of age and £1860 for 20-month-old Simmental heifers from the same vendor.

A Hereford heifer at 24 months old sold to £1890 for E Cookson & Partners of Lymm.

Younger cattle sold to £1440 for an 11-month-old Limousin from A H & T Carr of Waterfall.

The overall average for heifers was £1231.72.
