Store Cattle Sale Report 16th January

There was 303 Store and Breeding cattle on offer with a good strong trade for all types and classes of cattle.

Breeding Section

There was a small entry of breeding cattle with a Simmental feeding cow selling for £850 and a British Blue x feeding cow at £655.

Young Bulls

Top price paid up to £1090 for a 20 month old pedigree Angus from Ray Capewell of Checkley with a 21 month old Blonde bull from Gardiner Farming of Sandbach at £950 and a 27 month old Long Horn from the same people at £860.
Younger bulls sold up to £690 for a pair of 7 and 8 month old Angus’s from Ray Capewell with a number of smaller Black and White bulls reducing the average for young bulls to £464.52.

Steers

There were 158 steers on offer with some excellent prices being achieved seeing a pair of 21 month old Charolais from Mr R J Hall of Needwood at £1320 and a single 29 month old Charolais from John Deaville of Bucknall at £1270 and a pair of 19 month old Charolais from R J Hall of Needwood at £1245.
A single 17 month old Charolais from Tom Metcalfe of Grindon achieved £1045.
A bunch of 3, 21 month old Hereford’s from R J Hall of Needwood sold for £1195 with a single 21 month old Hereford from Messrs Brain of Cresswell at £1155. A 19 month old Angus steer sold at £1165 from Peter Salt of Whiston for a bunch of 3, with a bunch of 4, 18 month old Angus from Ian Lomax of Saverley Green at £1075 and a single 19 month old Angus from the same vendor at £1070.
A sale of bullocks up to 17 months of age achieved £1105 from Tom Metcalfe of Grindon with British Blue steers at 16 months of age from Philip Moss of Eaton at £1090 and 21 month old Short Horn from Don Burton of Rough Close at £1080.
Stabiliser steers from Messrs Brain of Cresswell sold up to £985 for a paid of 20 month old cattle.

Friesian steers topped at £940 for a 25 month old beast from Messrs Yates of Ashbourne with younger cattle up to £880 for a 8 month old Limousin from Miss Riley of Sutton with a 9 month old Blonde steer from E G Taylor & Partners at £870 and a 12 month old Limousin from Ian Lomax at £815. A pair of 9 month old Charolais from Messrs Whilock of Werrington sold for £810 with the average for steers being a pleasing £820.60.

Heifers

There were 119 heifers on offer with a top price being £1120 paid for a bunch of 3, 20 month old Charolais from R J Hall of Needwood with Limousin’s at 20 months of age up to £1115 from S & S Brain of Cresswell and a single 30 month old Limousin from F Swindells of Bosley at £1105.

Hereford steers from John Deaville of Bucknall sold up to £1110 at 29 months of age with Shorthorn heifers up to £1080 for a 26 month old beast from Don Burton of Rough Close and £1070 for a 21 month old Shorthorn from J & R Potts of Macclesfield.

British Blue heifers at 17 months of age from J & G J Fryer of Horton sold up to £945 for a bunch of 4 with Longhorns up to £930 for 24 month old bunch of 3, from Messrs Carr of Ashbourne.

Younger cattle sold up to £795 for a bunch of good shaped 8 month old Limousin heifers from Frith Brothers of Thorpe with the average overall being £762.35.
