There was an excellent entry of 710 store and breeding cattle on offer with a sharp trade in all section with vendors being well satisfied with the prices achieved.
Breeding Section
Breeding cows topped the market at £1860 paid for a pedigree Limousin cow with a heifer calf at foot from Clive Hidderley of Ipstones with the same vendor selling another Limousin heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot for £1520.
A Charolais cow with a Limousin male calf at foot from Roy Critchlow of Buxton sold for £1100 with an entry from F W Kirkham of King Sterndale selling up to £1130 for a Hereford cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot and £1100 for a Hereford cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot.
In calf suckler cows sold up to £960 for a Welsh Black from J Tavernor & Co of Great Haywood with a Limousin from Amy Seabridge of Hollywood at £950.
Young Bulls
Young bulls sold up to £1130 for a 12 month old Hereford from Blackbury Farm Ltd of Church Broughton with an 18 month old Simmental bull from R & D Hall of Congleton at £1050, 11 month old Limousin from Joe Austin of Parwich at £1045 with a 14 month old Limousin from the same farmer at £965.
11 month old Limousin from A J Peach of Warslow, achieved £950 with a pair of 10 month old Limousins from R Nicholls of Fradswell at £900.
Overall average achieved for young bulls was a pleasing £712.86.
Steers
There were 320 steers on offer with a top price being £1450 achieved for a 16 month old Limousin from Mick Clowes of Kingsley with a 23 month old Limousin from LA & MA Done & Son of Bosley selling well at £1365 and a 17 month old Limousin from Malcolm Ollerenshaw at £1365 also.
Other Limousins sold up to £1280 for an 18 month old beast from Malcolm Ollerenshaw with a 16 month old Limousin from CW Pearce and Partners at £1240.
25 month old Simmental from LA & MA Done & Son of Bosley achieved £1330 with a 23 month old pair of Simmental steers from the same vendors at £1315.
Shorthorn steers from Andrew Wain of Draycott sold up to £1270 for a 23 month old bullock with a British Blue bullock from the same vendor at similar age selling for £1265 and a 19 month old British Blue from G W Myatt & Partners of Gratton at £1255.
Angus steers were again well sold up to £1245 for a pair of 24 month old bullocks from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel with a single 24 month old bullock from the same vendor at £1225 and a 21 month old Angus from Joe Austin at £1200.
A Fleckvieh steer from Anders Agriculture of Roston was well sold at £1145 at 21 months of age with Herefords up to £1070 from Malcolm Unwin of Lask Edge at 24 months of age and Holsteins up to £1050 for 4, 23 month old Holsteins from Terry Heath of Stone.
South Devon steers at 12 months of age from Keith and Alison Wilton of Buxton were well sold at £1020 with 6, 10 month old Limousins from Geoff Nutter of Grindon at £1020. A pair of 12 month old Limousins from Bernard Minshull of Buxton sold for £990.
Overall average achieved for steers was £874.80.
Heifers
There were 338 heifers on offer selling up to £1305 for a 24 month old Simmental from LA & MA Done & Son of Bosley with at 23 month old Simmental from the same vendor at £1235.
A Blonde heifer from Anders Agriculture of Roston at 20 months of age sold for £1180 with a single 24 month old Blonde from J Gilman & Partners of Bosley at £1060. Limousin heifers from PG Beswick & Sons of Rudyard at 22 months of age sold up to £1145 for a bunch of 5 with a bunch of 3 from J Gilman & Partners at 22 months of age at £1125.
Angus heifers from Mick Clowes of Kingsley at 15 months of age sold up to £1140 for a bunch of 3 with 4 more at 19 months of age from R&HBates of Martonat £1105. A Hereford heifer from J D B Farming Limited of Stanley sold for £1060 at 22 months of age with a South Devon from Keith & Alison Wilton of Buxton at £1020 at 12 months of age.
British Blue heifers from J & G J Fryer of Horton at 19 months of age sold up to £1040 with Short Horns up to £950 for a bunch of 3, 13 month old heifers from Mick Reeves & Family of Ipstones.
A bunch of 4, 13 month old Limousin heifers from AJ Peach & Family of Warslow sold for £940 with the overall average achieved for heifers being £798.60
