Store Cattle Sale Report 17th February

There were 540 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer with trade very firm throughout and a strong enquiry for Cows with Calves at foot.

Breeding Section

Top price paid for a Saler Cow with a Charolais Bull Calf at Foot, from S Kidd Farmers of Longnor, realised £1730 with £1600 being paid for two similar outfits from the same vendor.

A Simmental Cow, with a Shorthorn Bull Calf at foot, from Mary Cawser of Sudbury, achieved £1510 with an In-Calf Beef Shorthorn Cow, from G Baskerville & Co, being bid for keenly and achieving £1550.

Stock Bulls

A Stock Bull, from CH Day & Son of Blackshaw Moor, at 4 years of age, achieved £1300.

Young Bulls

Another short supply of Young Bulls with plenty of trade, seeing a bunch of three 18-month-old British Blue Bulls, from Darren Pearson of Basford at £960, a 13-month-old Hereford, from J & R Potts of Macclesfield at £785 and a pair of young Hereford Bulls, from F Belfield of Meerbrook at £570.

Steers

There were 307 Steers on offer and an excellent trade for all sorts, seeing a top price of £1715 for a bunch of three British Blue Steers at 21 months of age, from Peter Richardson of Ipstones, with a bunch of six 17-month-old British Blue Steers, from A Mitchell & Sons of Knutsford at £1485 and another bunch of 17-month-old, from the same vendor at £1365.

A bunch of three 22-month-old Limousin, from Colin Lymer of Cheddleton, were bid for keenly and achieved £1695 with another pair of 23-month-old Limousin, at £1620 from the same vendor and two more from Steve Machin of Stanley, at 20 months of age achieving £1570.

A pair of 27-month-old Simmental, from LA & MA Done & Son of Bosley, achieved £1650 with a 22-month-old Charolais Steer, from Ross Worthington of Edale, at £1645 and a pair of 18-month-old Charolais Steers, from C & S Royle of Gawsworth, at £1580. Holstein Steers, from the same vendor, at 23 months of age, sold up to £1590 with Aberdeen Angus Steers up to £1360 for a single 22-month-old beast, from R & H Bates of Macclesfield and £1350 for a 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from C & S Royle of Gawsworth.

Younger Cattle continued to be particularly well sold with three 12-month-old Limousin, from JW & R Massey & Partners of Gawsworth at £1195, a single 11-month-old Limousin, from WT Mardling & Son of Hilderdstone, at £1180 and another bunch of three 12-month-old Limousin, from JW & R Massey &
Partners at £1125. A bunch of eight 11-month-old British Blue Steers, from Richard Morley of Kirk Langley, achieved £1060.

Overall average achieved was £1015.67.

 

Heifers

211 Heifers on offer with again some excellent prices, seeing Hereford Heifers, from C & S Royle of Gawsworth, at 22 months of age, up to £1515 and another from the same vendor at 23 months of age at £1460.

Charolais Heifers, from Ross Worthington of Edale, at 20 months of age, sold up to £1500, Limousin of the same age, for Steve Machin of Stanley, at £1480 and another bunch of four 23-month-old Limousin, from PJ Stephens of Mottram at £1465.

Simmental Heifers, from Robert Day of Cheddleton, at 17 months of age, sold up to £1415 and British Blue Heifers, from Rob Nicholls of Hilderstone, at 21 months of age, up to £1235.

Younger Cattle achieved up to £1150, for a British Blue Heifer at 14 months of age, from Dave Machin of Rudyard with Herefords at 14 months of age, from J & R Potts of Macclesfield at £965 and a bunch of five Aberdeen Angus Heifers, from Richard Morley of Kirk Langley, at £915.

The average achieved for Heifers was £940.46.
