There was a reduced entry due to the closeness to the sale of Christmas. There was plenty of trade in all sections with some types of cattle, particularly the longer term cattle looking dearer than the previous sale.
Breeding Section
Top price for cows and calves was £1600 paid for a Limousin heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Mrs June Sherratt of Meerbrook.
Young Bulls
An 11 month old Shorthorn bull from Emma Trueman at £880, a bunch of 3, 14 month old Angus from Stafford at £830 and Holstein 15 month old bulls from Stafford again at £790.
Overall average achieved for bulls was £689.26.
Steers
There were 97 steers on offer with a top price being £1295 achieved for a bunch of 3, 20 month old Angus from Joseph Torr Limited of Macclesfield with other Angus from the same vendor at 20 months of age at £1150.
British Blue steers from AD & J Potts of Astbury sold up to £1265 with a bunch of 4 from the same vendor at 20 months of age at £1170 and a 23 month old British Blue steer from PW Gerrard of Uttoxeter at £1165. A 24 month old British Blue from Marcus Jones of Rudyard sold for £1160.
Longhorn steers from Reg Potter and Family of Yeaveley sold up to £1210 at 17 months of age with another bunch of 3, 19 month old Longhorns from the same vendor at £1185 and a 19 month old Friesian again from the same farmer at £1205.
Simmental steers from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at 19 months of age sold up to £1005 with a Norwegian Red steer at 21 months of age from G C Brandrick & Sons of Burton on Trent at £930 and Limousin steers at 9 months of age from A L Turnock & Sons looking particularly well sold at £980. Another bunch of 4, 9 month old Limousin steers from the same vendor sold for £870. A bunch of 5, 7 month old Limousin good shaped steers from AD & J Potts of Astbury sold particularly well at £845.
Overall average for steers was £821.93.
Heifers
There were 83 heifers on offer with a top price being £1100 for a pair of 24 month old British Blue heifers from PW Gerrard of Uttoxeter with another pair of 20 month old British Blue heifers from Reg Critchlow of Grindon at £1075 and a bunch of 3, 17 month old British Blue heifers at £1055 from the same vendor.
Simmental heifers from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at 21 months of age sold for £1010 with a pair of Norwegian 29 month old heifers from W & S Waters & Son of Upper Hulme at £920 and a 22 month old Angus heifer from Ian Spendlove at £915.
10 month old Limousin heifers from A L Turnock & Sons of Winkhill sold for £740 with the overall average achieved being £633.55 with a high proportion of smaller cattle.
