A total entry of 386 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer with an excellent company of buyers in attendance. Trade was extremely keen in all sections, seeing a new market record set with a pair of Charolais steers from Sally Ollerenshaw and Family of Bradwell, at 23 months of age, making £2350 and another pair at 22 months old, from the same vendor, at £2300.
Breeding Section
In the Breeding section, there was a small entry, with a top price of the day being £1780 paid for an Aberdeen Angus cow, from Frank Belfield and Family of Meerbrook, with a Hereford steer calf at foot and a Highland cow with a Highland X heifer calf at foot, from Messrs Firbank of Buglawton, at £1380.
A Hereford cow from Mick Harrison of Whiston, with a young Hereford bull calf at foot, sold for £1650.
Young Bulls
Young bulls from Messrs Evans of Gawsworth were bid for keenly seeing a top price of £2040 for a 22-month-old Charolais bull with another at 19 months of age, from the same vendor, at £1800 and a pair of 7-month-old Charolais bulls at £1200.
Steers
There were 187 steers on offer returning a remarkable average of £1308.96, seeing a top price of £2350 as reported above, with a Limousin 30-month-old steer, from R & M Phillips & Sons from Buxton, exchanging hands for £2040 and other Limousins from the same vendor, at 29 months of age at £1700, and £1690 from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth at 20 months of age.
Aberdeen Angus steers from A & L Worthington, at 21 months of age, topped at £2010 with a pair of 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from the same vendor, at £1980 and a pair of 24-month-old from Joseph Torr Ltd of Rainow at £1960. Other Aberdeen Angus sold up to £1860 from Ray Turner of Rownall, at 25 months of age, £1840 from Joseph Torr Ltd at 28 months of age and £1800 from Royston Pepper and Family of Apedale at 21 months of age.
Charolais steers from R & M Phillips and Sons of Buxton, at 32 months of age, were particularly well sold up to £1950 with a 19-month-old Charolais steer from Messrs Bloxham at £1775 and a 17-month-old Charolais from Martin Lancaster of Congelton at £1685.
British Blue steers from A & L Worthington, at 23 months of age, topped at £1895 with another 21-month-old British Blue steer from the same vendor at £1850.
Montbeliarde steers at 21 months of age, from A & L Worthington, sold up to £1590 with Flekvieh steers from N M Hammersley of Uttoxeter, at 14 months of age, at £1560.
Holstein steers at 22 months of age from Ron Tomkinson of Butterton sold for £1190.
Younger cattle were particularly well sold with an excellent company of buyers in attendance with the highlight of the section being a bunch of seven, 11 month old, good quality Charolais steers from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones exchanging hands for £1470 with a single British Blue steer from Keith Minshull & Family of Bosley at £1340 and four bunches of six British Blue steers from A Mitchell & Sons of Knutsford meeting good competition and exchanging hands up to £1270 (twice).
An 8-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer from Trevor Ede of Stramshall realised £1250.
Heifers
There were 149 heifers which topped at £2090 for a 30-month-old Limousin from R & M Phillips & Sons of Buxton with another 30-month-old Limousin, from the same farmer, at £1590 and three 20-month-old Limousins from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth at £1455.
Charolais heifers from Martin Lancaster of Congleton, at 17 months of age, sold up to £1690 with Aberdeen Angus heifers, from H Lomas & Sons of Gawsworth, at 25 months of age, up to £1660 with Ian Barks selling a bunch of three 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus for £1600.
Hereford heifers from Ray Turner, at 29 months of age, topped at £1545 with a 22-month-old Hereford heifer from Ian Barks at £1540.
British Blue heifers from Curbishley Farms Ltd, at 15 months of age, sold up to £1405 and 15-month-old British Blue heifers from David Machin and Family of Rudyard sold up to £1385.
Simmental heifers form Messrs Bloxham, at 17 months of age, sold up to £1380.
Younger cattle included a pair of 9-month-old Limousin heifers from Jonathan Hall of Longnor which sold for £1130 with 12-month-old Limousin, from Tom Thorley of Stanton, at £1030.
Overall average achieved for Heifers was a pleasing £983.86.
