Store Cattle Sale Report 1st February

There were 564 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer with another excellent trade in all sections and a good company of buyers in attendance.

Breeding Section
There was a continued shortage of Breeding Cattle with an entry of In-Calf Dexter cows from Dunstall Estate, selling up to £595 and £575 with a bunch of three Hereford breeding heifers, at 17 months of age, from T Etches of Longnor, being bid for well at £1240.

Young Bulls
In the Young Bulls section, the top price paid was £1415 for a 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Stubbs with a 19-month-old Hereford, from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook at £1150 and 11-month-old Aberdeen Angus bulls, from Brode Hall Farm Partnership of Macclesfield achieved £1100 per head. A Charolais bull, from Winston Kidd of Quarnford, at 7 months of age, was particularly well sold at £1000.

Steers
There were 250 steers on offer with a top price of the day again being over £2000, up to £2140 for a bunch of 19 month old Charolais from Peter Salt of Shirley with another 24 month old Aberdeen Angus, from Joseph Torr Ltd, at £2020 and others form Peter Salt, at 18 months of age, at £1920 and Anders Agriculture of Roston, at 24 months old, making up to £1900.

There were 49 Aberdeen Angus steers on offer altogether, returning a pleasing average of £1493 per head.

Charolais steers from Sally Ollerenshaw of Bradwell, at 21 months of age, topped at £2090 with a Hereford steer from Robert Flower of Alstonefield, at 21 months of age, realising £2080 and a 23-month-old Charolais steer, from Sally Ollerenshaw, at £2000.

A bunch of four 22-month-old Hereford steers, from Messrs Tomkinson of Thorpe were well sold at £1870.

Shorthorn steers from Ipstones, sold to £2040 at 22 months of age with another from the same vendor at 21 months of age selling up to £1980 and another pair of Shorthorn steers at 23 months old at £1950.

Limousin steers form Robert Flower of Alstonefield, at 18 months of age, sold up to £1990 with a bunch of three 22-month-old Limousin steers, from Peter Richardson & Family of Ipstones, selling particularly well at £1890.

Holstein steers at 27 months of age, were particularly well sold at £1690 from DRH Agri of Poynton, with Blonde steers, from E & S Wright of Eccleshall, at 17 months of age, realising £1510.

Younger cattle achieved up to £1810 for a pair of excellent shaped 13-month-old Limousin steers, from Messrs Williams of Knutsford with another bunch of three Limousin steers at 11 months old realising £1660 and a bunch of three 11-month-old Charolais steers, from Sheila Kidd of Quarnford, at £1530.

The overall average achieved for steers was a very pleasing £1324.

Heifers
There were 284 heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1990 for a 22-month-old Shorthorn from Ipstones with a pair of 23-month-old Shorthorn, from the same vendor, at £1810.

Simmental heifers at 24 months old, from Messrs Stephens of Mottram St Andrew, sold up to £1730 with Limousin heifers from Geoge Hicklin and Family of Onecote, at 25 months of age, achieving up to £1705 and a 19-month-old Limousin heifer, from David Benbow of Hilderstone, selling particularly well at £1700.
A bunch of three 22-month-old Limousin, from Messrs Stephens, sold up to £1630.

Aberdeen Angus heifers from Anders Agriculture of Roston, topped at £1670 at 25 months of age with another pair of Aberdeen Angus heifers, at 25 months of age, from Anne Beech of Milton, achieving £1660.

Blonde heifers from Peter Mitchell at 23 months of age sold up to £1570 with Hereford heifers from J Elliott at 22 months of age, realising £1530. Holstein heifers from DRH Agri of Poynton, at 31 months of age, sold for £1500.

Younger cattle included a pair of 15-month-old British Blue heifers from David and Robert Machin and Family of Rudyard at £1540 with a 14-month-old Limousin heifer, from Ian Mardling of Hilderstone, at £1485 and a pair of 15 month old Limousin from Alan Hayes at £1460.

The overall average achieved for heifers was £1154.
