Store Cattle Sale Report 1st March

There were 653 store and breeding cattle on offer with an excellent trade once again in all sections.

Breeding Section
There was a shortage of Breeding Cattle again with Hereford heifers with Hereford bull calves at foot, from Michael Harrison of Whiston, achieving up to £1560 and an In-calf Limousin cow for Messrs Timmis of Hilderstone at £1060.

In-calf British Blue heifers from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook achieved up to £1500.

Young Bulls
In the Young Bulls section, some excellent prices were achieved with an 8-month-old Limousin for Messrs Ryan of Millington at £1500 and a pair of British Blue bulls from the same vendor at £1400.

Aberdeen Angus bulls at 21 months old from Dan Beswick of Ipstones achieved up to £1125 with Hereford bulls from Messrs Groves, at 8 months of age up to £960.

The average for young bulls was £887 with a number of smaller sorts included.

Steers
There were 290 Steers on offer, again with a very strong trade and an excellent company of buyers with strong competition on all lots.

Aberdeen Angus steers at 22 months of age for Brian and June Needham of Rushton, topped at £2380 with a pair of 24-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers from Glyn Redfern of Onecote at £2310 and an 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Adam Shaw of Ashbourne at £1890.

Shorthorn steers, at 22 months of age, from Ipstones sold up to £2320 with a pair of British Blue steers, from Peter and David Richardson of Ipstones, at £2290 with others at £1880 from PW Gerrard of Combridge, at 21 months of age, and a 24-month-old British Blue steer, from Mark Ratcliffe of Wetley Rocks, at £1870.

Limousin steers topped at £2280 for a bunch of three at 22 months old from PJ Stephens of Mottram with a 21-month-old Limousin steer from D Stanley of Loughborough at £1810.

Charolais steers from Tom Allen of Foxt, at 22 months of age, sold up to £2280 with another single 21-month-old Charolais steer from the same vendor at £1810.

Hereford steers from Harry Seabridge of Stone, at 22 months of age, sold for £2040.

Simmental steers from Ipstones sold up to £1990 for a 21-month-old beast with another at 22 months of age from David Richardson selling for £1950.

A Wagyu steer was particularly well sold at 24 months of age to £1900, from Glyn Redfern of Onecote, with a pair of Blonde 21-month-old steers from Ipstones at £1860.

Friesian steers at 23 months of age, from Tom Allen, sold up to £1770 and Holstein steers from Brian and June Needham, at 22 months of age, achieved up to £1710.

Younger cattle included a pair of 10-month-old Limousin steers, from Robert Flower and Family of Alstonefield, which sold for a remarkable £1770, with a single 11 month old Limousin steer from L Nicholls of Wetley Rocks at £1730, a pair of 10 month old British Blue steers from Robert Flower at £1670 and a bunch of six 12 month old Limousin steers, from Andrew and Tim Carr & Family of Waterfall, at £1640. Another 10-month-old Limousin from Mrs K Goldstraw of Wetley Rocks achieved £1610 and a bunch of three 9-month-old Limousin steers from Robert Flower achieved £1600.

The average achieved for steers was a pleasing £1304.

Heifers
There were 307 Heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1890, for a pair of 25-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Ray Turner of Rownall with another bunch of three 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from P Newman of Bucknall, achieving £1850 and a bunch of eight 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifers from R & H Bates & Sons of Marton at £1710.

A bunch of four Charolais, at 22 months of age, from Tom Allen of Foxt achieved £1880 with a pair of British Blue 27-month-old heifers, from Chris Lake at £1880 and a single 25-month-old British Blue heifer from David Stanley at £1790.

Limousin heifers from David Stanley at 21 months of age sold up to £1780 with another British Blue heifer at 14 months of age from Ipstones at £1780 and a 20-month-old British Blue heifer from Ian Barks at £1750.

Shorthorn heifers at 21 months of age topped at £1690 with Hereford heifers, from David Stanley, selling particularly well at £1640 at 22 months of age.

A Welsh Black heifer from Ian Barks, at 22 months of age, achieved £1520.

Smaller cattle sold up to £1540 for a 10-month-old British Blue heifer from Robert Flower with a pair of 10-month-old British Blue heifers from the same vendor at £1500 and a single 14-month-old Limousin heifer, from the Bailey family of Grindon, at £1500. A single 10-month-old Limousin heifer from E Etches of Elkstones achieved £1380.

The average for heifers was £1066.
