Breeding Section
There was a small entry of breeding cattle, with those on offer meeting a
good enquiry, seeing a top price of £1950 for a Charolais Cow with a Charolais
Heifer Calf at foot for Mr Webster of Southam. An in-calf Aberdeen Angus Cow, for
Mr Johnson of Springhill, was bid for keenly and sold for £1030.
Stock Bulls
There was an entry of three Stock Bulls with a top price of £1570 being paid
for a 64-month-old Limousin Bull, from Mr Johnson of Sringhill, with a 35-month-old
Hereford Bull, from Mark Cotterill of Knutton, realising £1300.
Young Bulls
In the Young Bulls section, the top price was £1170 for a 13-month-old
Flekvieh Bull, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, with a 10-month-old
Simmental Bull, from Mr Johnson of Springhill, selling up to £990 and
6-month-old Limousin Bulls, from Messrs Smith of Rushton Spencer, at £800.
The average for Young Bulls was £746.07
Steers
There were 181 Steers on offer with an excellent average of £1050.17,
seeing a top price of £1540, for a 32-month-old Limousin Steer from Holmes Bros
of Loscoe, with other Limousin up to £1445, from Nigel Gibbs of Butterton, at
19 months of age, £1410 for a 19-month-old bunch of 5, for Hambleton Bros of Calton
and £1375, for a 26-month-old Limousin, from Holmes Brothers.
A bunch of 3 Aberdeen Angus Steers, from Joseph Torr Ltd of Macclesfield,
at 24 months of age, sold up to £1480 with a single 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus
Steer, from Peter Salt of Whiston, at £1450 and a bunch of five 23-month-old
Aberdeen Angus, from Joseph Torr Ltd, at £1415.
British Blue Steers, from Holmes Bros of Loscoe, at 24 months of age,
sold up to £1475 with a bunch of six 17-month-old, from A Mitchell & Son,
selling particularly well, at £1470 and a 16-month-old British Blue Steer, from
Curbishley Farms Ltd, at £1345.
Charolais Steers, from Holmes Bros of Loscoe, at 27 months of age, sold
up to £1390 with another 20-month-old Charolais Steer, from Mrs S Kidd of
Quarnford, at £1385.
Friesian Steers from Holmes Bros, at 24 months of age, sold up to £1230
with Hereford Steers up to £1325 for a bunch of five, at 20 months old, from
Hambleton Bros of Calton and a pair, from Nick Brandon, at 23 months of age,
exchanging hands for £1265.
A Simmental Steer, at 17 months of age, from Curbishley Farms Ltd,
realised £1190.
Younger Cattle sold up to £1090 for a bunch of six 12-month-old Charolais,
from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones, with another bunch of similar aged
cattle, from the same vendor, at £1040.
Shorthorn Steers, from MJ Adams of Brailsford, at 11 months of age, sold
up to £980.
Overall average for Steers was ££1050.17
Heifers
There were 125 Heifers on offer, seeing a good firm trade throughout,
with 4 Aberdeen Angus Heifers, at 21 months of age, from ER Pepper of Apedale,
topping the section at £1260 with another 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus Heifer,
from the same vendor, at £1170 and another 25-month-old Aberdeen Angus Heifer,
from Ian Barks at £1115.
British Blue Heifers, from Holmes Bros of Loscoe, at 32 months of age,
sold up to £1255 with a single 19-month-old, from Nigel Gibbs of Butterton, at
£1180.
Limousin Heifers, at 27 months of age, from Holmes Bros, sold up to £1205
with Charolais, from Mrs S Kidd of Quarnford, at 19 months of age, selling for
£1175 and Herefords, at 24 months of age, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, at

A bunch of four 26-month-old Hereford Heifers, from Messrs Ackerley achieved
£1090.
A pair of 9-month-old Charolais Heifers, from Eric Hudson of New Mills,
were well sold at £890 with other Charolais at 9 months of age from C & EJ Whilock
at £755.
