Store Cattle Sale Report 20th November

There was 432 store and breeding cattle on offer with less cows with calves at foot and a sharper trade for the smaller sorts with strong cattle close to finishing continuing to meet a good enquiry.

Breeding Section

In the suckler section there was a top price of £1840 paid for a Pedigree Shorthorn cow with a Shorthorn bull calf at foot having run back to the beef Shorthorn bull from David Watkins with In calf cows from Messrs Woodfield of Market Drayton selling up to £1030 for a Stabiliser being due to the Stabiliser bull in March or April with another Angus cow from the same vendor of a similar note at £950.

A Pedigree Limousin stock bull from Mr R Darlington of Scholar Green exchanged hands for £1580 with a South Devon bull from Mr Chadwick of Kniveton at £1140.

Young Bulls

The top price of the day was £770 for a Longhorn 12 month old bull from Smiths Farming of Castle Hayes with a pair of 11 month old Angus from the same vendor at £750 and a 10 month old Angus from I G Foster & Son of Burton on Trent at £745 with a 9 month old Charolais from J A Clowes & Sons of Ashbourne at £655.

Overall average for young bulls was £511.00

Steers

There were 206 steers on offer with the top price being a very pleasing £1475 for a pair of 22 month old Limousin steers from David Curtis & Family of Basford with another 21 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £1400, a pair of 22 month old Limousins, again from the same vendor at £1335 and a 17 month old Limousin from Messrs Archer of Sutton on the Hill at £1300.

A Hereford steer from Mr Witham of Marston at 24 months of age sold for £1415 with a pair of 23 month old Hereford steers from Messrs Prince of Ilam at £1290 and a single 18 month old Hereford from Adrian Swinnerton of Lichfield at £1200.

British Blue steers from David Curtis & Family at 23 months of age topped at £1400 with a single 21 month old British Blue from Malcolm Unwin of Horton at £1280.

Charolais from Ross Worthington of Edale sold up to £1340 at 19 months of age with another 15 month old Charolais from Ross Worthington at £1250 at a third at 16 months of age from the same vendor at £1200.

Aberdeen Angus steers topped this week at £1230 for a 19 month old pair from Messrs Rowlinson of Gawsworth with another pair of 22 months old Angus from Joseph Torr Limited of Macclesfield at £1225 and a single 24 month old Angus from David Curtis & Family at £1175 and a 22 month old Angus from Campion Brothers Limited of Burton upon Trent at £1170.

Simmental steers from Roy Shore of Biddulph at 21 months of age sold up to £1260.

Montbeliarde steers from Anders Agriculture of Roston at 18 months of age sold up to £960 with Shorthorns at 19 months of age from George and Elsie Fallows & Family of Whiston at £950. A bunch of 6, 10 month old Shorthorns were particularly well sold from Geoff Tunnicliffe & Family at £890 with a 12 month old Hereford from S J Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave at £885 with a 9 month old Limousin from MJD Farms of Alstonefield at £835 and a 7 month old Simmental from W & FM Slack of Broad Carr at £810.

Overall average achieved for Steers was £807.80.

Heifers

There were 185 heifers on offer with a top price being £1490 for a 31 month old Limousin from S A Alcock of Waterhouses with a pair of 23 month old Limousins from David Curtis & Family at £1315 and a pair of 18 month old Limousins from BR & SV Archer of Sutton on the Hill at £1270.

British Blue heifers from Adrian Swinnerton of Lichfield at 26 months of age sold up to £1285 with Angus heifers from A E Alcock of Waterhouses at 13 months of age at £1270 and another from the same vendor at 31 months of age at £1175.

Simmental heifers from Roy Shaw of Biddulph sold up to £1150 at 25 months of age with Blondes at 22 months of age from E Docksey & Sons of Bagnall at £1030 and Charolais up to £1020 for a pair of 15 month old heifers from Ross Worthington of Edale.

Younger sorts sold up to £750 for a 9 month old Limousin from Graham Jones of Langley with a bunch of 6, 6 month old Limousin heifers from A B Kidd of Wildboarclough at £710.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £719.61.
