Store Cattle Sale Report 21st August

There was a total entry of 609 store and breeding cattle on offer with trade very similar to a fortnight ago and a good company of buyers in attendance.

Breeding Section

There were some decent outfits of cows with calves at foot with a top price of £1890 being paid for a British Blue cow with a Hereford steer calf at foot from Philip Riley of Meerbrook with a British Blue cow with a young Angus heifer calf at foot from Robert Johnson of Longnor at £1320.

An entry of two cows and calves from F & J Barlow of Froghall sold up to £1770 for an Angus cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot with a Limousin cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot at £1690.

A small herd dispersal from R & SE Poole of Winkhill sold up to £1520 for a Hereford cow with a Hereford steer calf at foot with another similar outfit at £1310

An entry of Limousin cows with calves from S A Alcock of Waterhouses sold up to £1750 for a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf with £1640 being paid for a Limousin cow with an Angus male calf at foot with other outfits at £1520 and £1420.

Feeding cows from David Stanley sold up to £1,080 for an Angus X with a Devon x at £1060 and a British Blue X at £1020.

There were two stock bulls on offer with a pedigree Limousin from J M Bennett of Hazel Grove at £3,200 with a 6 year old Hereford bull from R & S E Poole at £1490.

Young Bulls

Young bulls sold up to £980 for a 14 month old from Springfield Partners of Macclesfield with a 14 month old Angus from David Naylor at £890 and a 10 month old British Blue from the same vendor at £850 and a 10 month old Limousin again from David Naylor at £750.

Overall average achieved for young bulls was £587.08.

Steers

There were 300 steers on offer with a top price being £1440 for a British Blue steer from Andrew Leeson of Ilam at 24 months of age with another 24 month old British Blue steer from the same vendor at £1410 and a 23 month old British Blue from Arthur and Nora Swinson at £1340 with a bunch of 4, 24 month old again from Andrew Leeson at £1325.

A Hereford Steer from Arthur and Nora Swinson at 17 months of age achieved £1390 with another 27 month old Hereford steer from Roy Sant at £1340 and a bunch of 4, 24 month old Herefords from Andrew Leeson at £1320.

A Simmental steer at 18 months of age from Arthur and Nora Swinson was well sold at £1350 with a bunch of 3, 22 month old Simmentals from R & J Shore of Biddulph at £1290.

A bunch of 4, 24 month old Angus from A G Mellor of Sutton sold at £1340 with another 22 month old Angus from R A Bradbury of Kingsley at £1260 with the same price being paid for an 18 month old Angus from Arthur and Nora Swinson.

Limousin Steers from Arthur and Nora Swinson sold up to £1250 for a 16 month old beast with a 15 month old Charolais from Ross Worthington selling particularly well at £1230 with a bunch of 3, 17 month old Simmentals from Reg Simcock of Endon at £1240.

Overall average achieved for Steers was £941.32.

Heifers

There were 216 heifers on offer with a top price being £1270 for a bunch of 3, 23 month old Angus from A G Mellor of Sutton with another 22 month old Angus from R A Bradbury of Kingsley at £1240 and a pair of 25 month old Angus, again from A G Mellor at £1140.

A pair of 16 month old Charolais from Ross Worthington were well sold at £1195 with Herefords up to £1150 at 25 months of age from R & J Shore of Biddulph.

Simmental heifers from Robert Day of Cheddleton at 21 months of age topped at £1120 with another 25 month old Simmental from R & J Shore at £1115. 

22 month old Limousins from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth sold up to £1,075.

Younger cattle from Geoff Nutter of Grindon sold up to £1060 for 14 month old Limousins with 13 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £1040 to produce an overall average of £802.81.
