Total entry of 251 store and breeding cattle on offer with trade very similar to a fortnight ago with some excellent prices being achieved.
Breeding Section
Top price in the breeding section was £1340 paid for a British Blue cow with a British Blue steer calf at foot from the Executors of Mr Gun of Stanley with a pedigree Aberdeen Angus heifer with an Angus heifer calf at foot from MK & DL Griffin of Alstonefield being particularly well sold at £1140. A Simmental cow with a Simmental bull calf at foot from J Badham & Sons of Abbotts Bromley exchanged hands for £970.
In calf cattle sold up to £980 for a Hereford heifer from Rob Edwards of Freehay.
Young Bulls
There was a shortage of quality with a top price of £610 for a 7 month old Simmental from Messrs Gregory of Peak Forest with a 6 month old British Blue from M & D Barber of Blore at £570 and Charolais up to £560 from the same vendor.
Steers
There were 99 steers on offer with some excellent prices being achieved up to £1275 for a pair of 24 month old Limousins from J G Curtis & Son of Basford with another Limousin from J L Mellor of Sutton at £1225 at 20 months of age and another pair from the same vendor of similar age at £1135. A pair of 19 month old Limousin from Richard Bunting sold for £1130.
British Blue steers from J G Curtis & Son of Basford at 24 months of age sold up to £1185 with another single from the Executors of Mr Gun of Stanley at 19 months of age selling for £1080 and a pair of 17 month old British Blues from A & L Worthington at £1065.
A pair of 18 month old Herefords from H & R Nash of Marchington sold for £1030 with a single from Albert Chaddock at 18 months of age at £1000.
Simmental steers from J Badham & Sons of Rugeley sold up to £1000 for a 17 month old beast being particularly well sold with another 22 month old Simmental from JB Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at £940.
Shorthorn steers from Albert Chaddock topped at £990 for an 18 month old beast with Angus selling up to £975 for a 18 month old steer from W Waters of Upper Hulme and £990 for a 23 month old Angus steer from WJ Bridges of Biddulph.
There was a shortage of strong steers with a bunch of 6 month old Charolais being particularly well sold from S Kidd Farmers of Longnor at £785 with another single Charolais at 6 months old at £730 from JH & IEA Bennett & Sons of Brandside. Another bunch of 6 month old Limousin steers from J Badham & Sons of Rugeley sold for £730.
Overall average for steers was a pleasing £763.94.
Heifers
There were 99 heifers on offer with a top price being £1140 for a bunch of 4, 24 month old British Blues from J G Curtis & son of Basford with another bunch of 3 British Blues at 17 months of age from A & L Worthington at £900 and 4 more from the same vendor also selling for the same price.
Charolais heifers from H & R Nash of Marchington sold up to £1095 with Limousins up to £1020 for a 21 month old heifer from R Bunting of New Haven and a pair of 22 month old Limousin heifers from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at £935 and a bunch of 3, 22 month old Simmentals from J B Rowlinson & Sons also at £925.
Angus heifers from WJ Bridges of Biddulph sold up to £845 at 22 months of age with younger cattle selling up to £785 for a 10 month old Simmental from Ben Rowlinson of Bottom House with a bunch of 4, 14 month old Limousins at £690 from the same vendor.
Overall average for heifers was £674.04.
