Store Cattle Sale Report 26th February

There was an excellent entry of 622 Store and Breeding cattle on offer with a good company of buyers bidding keenly for all types of stock.

Breeding Section
There was a special entry of 26 In calf, mainly Hereford cows, In calf to the Angus bull, from the estate of William Gould of Longnor. These were a genuine herd and were bid for keenly up to £1170, £1090 & £1020 and two more at £1000.

A Dexter In calf cow from Frank Belfield of Meerbrook, sold for £395.

Young Bulls
There were 69 young bulls on offer with a top price being £880 paid for a bunch of 5, good shaped Limousin bulls from Messrs Bradbury of Ipstones with a 7 month old Beef Shorthorn bull from J & R Potts of Prestbury Road, and an 8 month old Charolais bull from Waller Farms of Sutton at £750.

A 9 month old Angus bull again from Messrs Bradbury of Ipstones sold for £700 with the average being £439.57.

Steers
There were 251 steers on offer with some very strong cattle from Ian Hollis of Burton upon Trent, topping the market at £1560 for a single South Devon steer at 22 months of age with another pair of 22 months of age South Devon steers from the same vendor at £1470 and a bunch of 4, 21 month old South Devon steers at £1460.

Limousin steers sold up to £1390 for a 15 month old beast from Joe Austin of Parwich, with a bunch of 4, 21 month old Limousin steers from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at £1340 and a single 22 month old Limousin from AD & J Potts of Astbury at £1210.

There were several other Limousins selling for £1100 and over with British Blue steers from Beryl Kirkham at 27 months of age up to £1355 and a 23 month old British Blue from Messrs White of Sheffield at £1290 and a pair of 18 month old from Bill Carbutt of Siddington at £1270. Another pair of 27 month old British Blue steers from Beryl Kirkham exchanged hands for £1255.

Angus steers topped at £1255 from new vendors, Brode Hall Farm Partnership at 18 months of age with a single 24 month old Angus from Campion Bros Limited of Burton at £1170 and a single from Messrs White of Sheffield at 21 months of age at £1160.

Hereford steers from Hambleton Bros of Calton topped at £1230 at 21 months of age with a pair of 24 month old Herefords from Bill Carbutt of Siddington at £1200 and 24 months old Hereford steers from Messrs Furness of Wheston at £1135.

Simmental steers from Messrs Mitchell and Bradley of Buglawton, at 27 months of age sold up to £1100 with Norwegian Red steers from Mr Carbutt at 17 months of age exchanging hands for £1030.

Younger cattle sold up to £1110 for a bunch of 3, 10 month old Limousin steers from Brian Chadwick of Onecote with a single 11 month old from Sam Hudson & Family of Ilam at £1100 and a bunch of 6, 8 month old Limousins from the same farmer at £1100 also. A 10 month old Limousin steer from K L Potts of Mottram St Andrews sold well at £1050.

Overall average achieved for steers was £927.69.

Heifers
There were 268 heifers some good quality heifers saw a top price of £1340 for a 20 month old Limousin from Joe Austin of Parwich with a single 25 month old Limousin from W A Durose & Sons of Mayfield at £1240 and a single 24 month old Limousin from Jack Hassell at £1220.

British Blue heifers from Beryl Kirkham at 28 months of age sold up to £1300 with a single 23 month old British Blue heifer from Bill Carbutt & Family of Siddington at £1180. A Charolais heifer at 21 months of age from Ian Woodward sold up to £1205 with Herefords up to £1190 for a bunch of 3, 27 month olds from Beryl Kirkham and Angus up to £1170 for a 27 month old Heifer from Messrs Durose of Mayfield.

Younger cattle sold up to £1045 for a 10 month old Limousin heifer from Ian and Robert Smith of Ilam with the overall average being a pleasing £865.42.
