Store Cattle Sale Report 26th June

There was a total entry of 394 store and breeding cattle on offer with trade very strong in all sections.
Breeding Section
Top price of the day was £1980 achieved for a pedigree Simmental cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from J & A Worthington of Nether Alderley with the same vendor selling a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot for £1500 and a Limousin cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot for £1590.
A Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Martyn Wright and Family of Hartington, exchanged hands for £1270 with a Hereford heifer with an Angus heifer calf at foot from H & J Smith & Sons of Biddulph Moor at £1280 and 3 outfits from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones up to £1400 for a Shorthorn cow with a Shorthorn male calf at foot, £1340 for a Charolais cow with a Charolais bull calf at foot and £1300 for a Charolais cow with a Charolais bull calf at foot.
A suckler cow from Messrs Hodgkinson of Gawsworth sold not guaranteed in calf was well sold at £1130.
There was one breeding bull on offer, being a pedigree Hereford from John Goldstraw & Family of Waterhouses, which exchanged hands for £1440.
Young Bulls
Young bulls were in short supply but met a good demand up to £1050 for a bunch of 4, 12 month old Limousins from AS & EL Heathcote & Son of Rainow with another pair of similar aged bulls at £900 from the same vendor.
Steers
There were 178 steers on offer with a bunch of 3, 21 month old Angus from RA Bradbury of Kingsley topping at £1395 with another bunch of 3, 22 month old Angus from Mr Thacker of Uttoxeter at £1280 and another pair from Mr Bradbury at 21 months of age exchanging hands at £1270. A single 27 month old Angus from S Cowen of Stockport sold for £1250.
Hereford steers from TEH Bold & Sons of Cotton, sold up to £1275 with a pair of 26 month old steers from the same vendors at £1210 and a single 26 month old Hereford from S Cowen at £1170.
A British Blue steer from H & J Smith & Sons of Biddulph Moor was well sold at £1175 at 23 months of age with a pair of 24 month old Shorthorns up to £1165 from GG Hall & Sons of Croxton with Limousins at 23 months of age up to £1145 from David Wain of Ilam and Simmentals from Stanley Brothers of Biddulph Moor at £1060.
Younger cattle sold up to £995 for a 12 month old Shorthorn steer from GG Hall & Sons of Croxton with a pair of 12 month old Limousins from H Salt & Sons of Grindon at £920 and a pair of 10 month old Angus from RE & KM Clowes of Cheadle at £875.
A Pair of 11 month old Limousins from C V Whilock & Sons of Ipstones sold for £860 with an overall average for steers being £825.25.
Heifers
There were 169 heifers on offer with a top price of £1325 achieved for a 27 month old Charolais from DRH Agri of Poynton with a 32 month old Hereford from TEH Bold & Sons of Cotton at £1250 and another 36 month old from the same vendor at £1180.
Angus sold up to £1190 for a bunch of 3, 21 month old from RA Bradbury of Kingsley with British Blues up to £1155 for a bunch of 4, 20 month olds from John and Gary Fryer of Horton and a single 23 month old Shorthorn from GG Hall & Sons of Croxden at £1140.
A bunch of 4, 19 month old Limousin heifers from Don Lowndes of Reapsmoor sold for £1005 with a bunch of 4, 12 month old Limousins at £890 from AS & EL Heathcote & Sons of Rainow and a single 6 month old Angus at £590.
An entry of 4 British Blue 9 month old heifers from E Morley & Sons of Kirk Langley sold up to £740.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £769.23.
