Store Cattle Sale Report 26th October

A total entry of 458 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer.

Breeding Section

There was a larger entry of Cows with Calves at foot, including two special entries with a top price of £1640, for an in-calf 33-month-old Shorthorn heifer, from Flanders Farming of Onecote with a similar beast from the same vendor at £1320 and others at £1280 and £1270.

Cows with calves at foot, from Messrs Hodgkinson topped at £1340 for a British Blue, with a Limousin steer calf at foot.

In-calf Hereford cows, from Bostocks of Gillow Heath, achieved up to £960 with a 27-month-old Aberdeen Angus breeding heifer, from Ray Turner of Wetley Rocks, achieving £1190.

Stock Bulls

Stock bulls topped at £2270 from John Elliott of Sheffield for a 65-month-old Limousin bull with two young Pedigree South Devon bulls, from David Crow, at 29 months of age, achieving £1650 and £1600.

A 48-month-old Pedigree Shorthorn bull, from Flanders Farming was well bid for at £1800.

A 76-month-old Highland bull from Messrs Wilson of Leek achieved £905.

Young Bulls

There was a small entry of young bulls which topped at £840 for a 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Harper of Bradnop with 7-month-old Hereford bulls from Messrs Goodall of Cubley at £770 and Limousin young bulls, at £740 for Daniel Fox of Waterhouses.

Steers

There were 202 steers on offer with a top price of the day being £1650 for a 27-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Philip Taylor of Rainow with another Aberdeen Angus steer from Messrs Tomlinson of Denford at £1595 and a 27-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Bloor of Holmes Chapel at £1595 also.

Francis Goodwin & Family of Wincle sold a bunch of five 24-month-old Aberdeen Angus for £1500 with Royston and Tracy Pepper selling 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers for £1465.

British Blue steers, from Messrs Tomlinson of Denford, at 25 months old, sold up to £1605 with Roy Shore of Biddulph receiving £1580 for a 25-month-old British Blue and Geoff Forrester of Abbots Bromley £1540 for a pair of 22-month-old British Blue steers.

A pair of 26-month-old Hereford steers for Messrs Tomlinson of Denford, at 26 months old, sold for £1485 with Limousin steers from Lauren Beech of Astbury at 15 months of age selling up to £1405 and a pair of 16-month-old Shorthorn steers, from Mary Rowlinson of Cotton, at £1390.

Other Shorthorn steers, at 16 months old, from the same farmer achieved £1345.

Charolais steers, again from Mary Rowlinson, at 17 months, sold up to £1365 with a bunch of six 24-month-old Holstein steers from Messrs Webster of Cauldon, selling particularly well for £1245 with Red Poll steers from Messrs Moss at Rushton Spencer at 18 months of age realising £1180.

Younger cattle sold up to £940 for an 8-month-old British Blue steer, from Messrs Garlick of Buxton with a 7-month-old Limousin steer from Messrs Turnock of Wincle at £890, Shorthorn steers from Flanders Farming at 7 months of age realised up to £840 for a pair.

The average for steers was £1055.

 

Heifers

There were 192 heifers on offer with the top price being £1575 for a pair of 29-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Mellor of Sutton, with a single 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Roy Shore of Biddulph, at £1385 and a bunch of five 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifers, from Graham Sidebottom of Marple Bridge, at £1300.

British Blue Heifers from Messrs Stone of Onecote at 24 months old sold up to £1295 with a single 22-month-old British Blue heifer from David Curtis & Family of Basford at £1080.

A pair of 17-month-old Charolais, from Ross Worthington of Edale, were well sold at £1220 with 16-month-old heifers, from the same vendor at £1110.

Shorthorn heifers from Mary Rowlinson, at 16 months, achieved £1045 and Blonde heifers from D J Gilman of Congleton, at 24 months old, realised £1030, Ayrshire heifers from Messrs Brocklehurst of Wincle, at 27 months, topped at £1005.

Younger cattle achieved up to £940 for a 9-month-old British Blue heifer from Graham Jones of Macclesfield with a bunch of three 8-month-old Limousin heifers, for Messrs Turnock of Winkhill, at £860.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £862.
