Store Cattle Sale Report 26th September

Total entry of 580 of store and breeding cattle on offer with vendors in attendance from a wide area and trade being particularly strong for suckler cows and calves and the best quality stores with some of the second quality stores being a steadier trade in keeping with the national trends.

Breeding Section

In the suckler cow section top price of the day was £1890 paid for an in calf pedigree Limousin cow from PM & L Harris of Almonkton with the same vendors having £1740 and £1630 for another 2 in calf pedigree Limousin cows.

Bulling pedigree Limousin heifers from the same vendor approximately 20 months of age sold up to £1640 with others at £1350, £1320 and £1300.

A part herd dispersal on behalf of Mr EE Eardley of Sutton, Macclesfield met a good enquiries selling up to £1600 for a Blonde cow with a 5 month old Blonde steer calf at foot with a Blonde cow with a Blonde 6 month old heifer calf at foot at £1570 and another Blonde cow with a 4 month old Blonde steer calf at foot at £1420.

A Limousin cow and a Limousin heifer calf at foot from FE Whittaker & Sons of Bosley sold for £1310 with D Edgecox of Onecote receiving up to £1290 for a Limousin heifer with a Limousin bull calf at foot.

2 Sussex bulling heifers from Edward and Jackie Dale of Leek at 18 months of age sold for £730.

A Stock bull from Philip Weaver and family of Wetley Rocks being a pedigree Hereford exchanged hands for £1,090.

Young Bulls

Top price was £1190 achieved for a bunch of three well grown British Blue bulls at 10 months of age from B Wainwright of Meerbrook with a 10 month old Limousin bull from PM & L Harris at £1120 and 11 month old Limousin bull from the same vendor at £1010.

A 17 month old Limousin bull from M Gregory of Peak Forest, sold for £925 with a 15 month old Simmental at £800 from N & K Goddard and a 15 month old Charolais from K E Grocott of Leigh at £790.

Younger bulls sold up to £690 for a bunch of 3, 12 month old Limousins from the Harris’s with an overall average for young bulls being £605 per head.

Steers

There were 298 steers on offer with a top price of £1280 paid for a pair of 19 month old Angus from Rushton Spencer with a bunch of 3, 16 month old Angus from JR Cowap of Crewe at £1130, a bunch of 5 from D Edge of Latch Dennis at 17 months of age selling for £1080 and a single from D Chadwick of Knivedon at 18 months of age at £1065. Mr Clowes of Cubley sold a 16 month old Angus for £1005.

A bunch of 3 Simmental steers at 19 months of age from Mark Goodwin of Abbots Bromley were well sold at £1165 with another bunch of 3, 20 month old Simmentals from the same vendor at £1140 and a single 17 month old Simmental from Andrew Wain of Draycott at £990.

A pair of 22 month old Charolais from JA Clowes & Sons of Cubley sold for £1165 with British Blue steers up to £1095 at 16 months of age from M&M Heath of Rushton Spencer with another one from the same vendor at a similar age at £1085 and a pair from Reg Simcock of Endon at 16 months of age selling for £1065.

Limousin steers at 14 months of age sold well up to £1090 from J Braddock of Hulme with Herefords at 22 months of age from Paul Rowbottom of Ipstones up to £1085 and a bunch of 4 Herefords at 17 months of age from P Mitchell of Stafford exchanged hands for £985 and Shorthorns from Andrew Wain of Draycott at 17 months of age at £1025. A bunch of 3, 13 month old Friesians from Rushton Spencer were well sold at £840.

Younger cattle sold up to £880 for a bunch of 3, 18 month old Shorthorns from J & R Potts of Macclesfield, £840 for a 12 month old Limousin from J Braddock of Hulme, £830 for a pair of 13 month old Simmentals from J & JE Reed of Knutsford and £810 for a bunch of 5 Aberdeen Angus at 12 months of age from D Edge of Latch Dennis.
Overall average for steers was £761.68.

Heifers

There were 212 heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1170 for a pair of 16 month old from M&M Heath of Rushton Spencer with another 16 month old British Blue heifer from the same vendors at £1030 and a bunch of 3, 20 month old from R Heath & Family of Tarporley at £1005.

A single 28 month old Charolais from R Watson of Fenny Bentley sold for £1070 with a 26 month old Charolais from the same vendor also selling for £1070. Aberdeen Angus heifers from D Edge of Latch Dennis sold up to £910 at 19 months of age with a 16 month old Limousin from Robert Flower at £900.

Younger cattle sold up to £900 for a 12 month old British Blue heifer from M & M Heath of Rushton Spencer with a single 11 month old Limousin from T Sayer of Sandon at £870.

Overall average for heifers was £672.32.
