Store Cattle Sale Report 28th September

713 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer on Saturday, an excellent entry of cattle with plenty of buyers around the ring looking for all types of cattle.

Breeding Section
A British Blue cow with a Charolais male calf at foot, from S Kidd Farmers of Longnor, topped at £1560 with another similar outfit, with a Saler heifer calf at foot, from the same vendor, at £1490.

An Aberdeen Angus cow with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot, from R Vernon of Rocester, achieved £1270, with a Hereford cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot, from Messrs Dean & Son of Congleton, realising £1280.

Breeding cows, from Rosie Watson of Fenny Bentley, both being Salers, achieved £1190 and £970.

Young Bulls
In the young bull’s section, a 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus bull, from Messrs Thacker of Uttoxeter, was bid for keenly at £1130 with a pair of Aberdeen Angus 14 month old bulls, from Robertson & Partners of Macclesfield, at £985 and a 9 month old Aberdeen Angus, from William Smith of Marchington, at £670.

Steers
There were 394 steers on offer with a top price this week of £1680 for a 19-month-old Limousin for George Hicklin & Family of Onecote with other Limousin to £1595 for a pair at 27 months old, from James Gilman & Partners of Bosley, with another pair of similar aged cattle, from the same vendor at £1585.
A bunch of three at 18-month-old Limousin, from Peter Richardson of Ipstones, sold for £1490.

British Blue steers, from Reg Simcock & Family of Endon, were well sold at £1655 at 26 months old with another pair of 27-month-old British Blue steers at £1650 from the same vendor and a single 21-month-old British Blue steer, from Messrs Gould at Waterhouses, at £1600.
A pair of British Blue steers, from Messrs Carbutt, at 22 months of age realised £1560 and another pair at 23 months old, from David Curtis & Family of Basford, at £1545.

Simmental steers, at 24 months of age, from P J Stephens of Mottram, were well sold at £1645 with Aberdeen Angus steers, from Messrs Carbutt, at 17 months of age, up to £1630, a bunch of six, 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel, at £1580 and a bunch of three 25 month old Aberdeen Angus, from WG Latham, at £1575.

South Devon steers, from John Barber of Quarnford, at 16 months old, sold up to £1490 with a bunch of three 16 month old Charolais, from Ros Worthington of Edale, at £1470 with Herefords topping at £1450 for 17 month old cattle, from Messrs Sykes of Rainow and 25 month old Friesian steers, from Messrs Carbutt, at £1370 and Shothorns, from WG Latham, at 23 months old, up to £1290.
A Brown Swiss steer, from Michael Harrison of Whiston, at 29 months achieved £1220.
Younger cattle sold up to £1120 for a pair of 10 month old Limousin for KL Potts of Mottram St Andrew, with a pair of Charolais at 10 months of age realising £1100.

A British Blue steer, from Keith Minshull of Bosley, sold for £1050 and Hereford steers, at 12 months of age from Ray Turner of Rownall up to £990.

Overall average achieved, including a number of smaller sorts, was a pleasing £924.04.

Heifers
There were 282 heifers on offer seeing a top price of £1695 for a pair of 28 month old Limousin, from James Gilman & Partners of Bosley with other Limousin, from the same vendor at 28 months up to £1585 and a single 32 month old Limousin, from P Birch of Hartington at £1470.

Hereford heifers, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, at 26 months old, sold up to £1595 with Aberdeen Angus heifers, from Philip Brown of Bagnall at 24 months old up to £1575 and another 21 month old Aberdeen Angus heifer, from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel, at £1550.

Simmental heifers, from P J Stephens of Mottram, at 24 months old realised £1550 and another 23 month old Simmental from George Higton & Family at £1505.

British Blue heifers, from David Curtis & Family of Basford at 23 months old sold up to £1490 with another bunch of four 23 month old British Blue heifers from Messrs Gould of Waterhouses at £1485 and a 24 month old pair of British Blue heifers, from Messrs Carbutt at £1460.

Charolais heifers from Ros Worthington of Edale, at 17 months old, topped at £1430 with Bazadaise heifers at 17 months old, up to £1265 for Messrs Shann of Sheen and a bunch of Flekvieh heifers, at 27 months, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington at £1235.

Younger cattle sold up to £1095 for a bunch of 13 month old British Blue heifers from David Machin & Family of Rudyard with a pair of 13 month old British Blue heifers, from Keith Minshull of Bosley achieving £925.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £921.59.
