A total entry of 492 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer with trade
very similar to a fortnight ago and a good company of buyers in attendance
looking for all types of Cattle.
Breeding Section
In the breeding section there was less on offer this week seeing a top
price of £1540 for a British Blue cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot for
Messrs Hodgkinson, with two in-calf Aberdeen Angus heifers from the same vendor
selling well up to £1485 and £1480.
A Hereford cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot, from Nick Brown of
Marston Montgomery, realised £1360.
Breeding heifers from Richard Heatley and Family of Dilhorne sold up to
£1120 for a 28-month-old Hereford.
Stock Bulls
Breeding bulls topped at £1860 paid for a 5-year-old Hereford bull from The
Proudlove Family of Congleton.
Young Bulls
Only a small entry of young bulls selling up to £990 for a 15-month-old
Hereford and £930 for a further Hereford of similar age.
Steers
There were 257 steers on offer with a top price of £1750 achieved for a 21-month-old
Limousin from Jason Jervis of Cheadle with other Limousin at 18 months of age
up to £1530.
Aberdeen Angus steers from F Goodwin & Family of Wincle, at 23 months
of age, were well sold up to £1645 with another three 27-month-old Aberdeen
Angus steers, from Keith Challinor of Tean, selling particularly well at £1640
and a single 20-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer, from F H White of Shottle, at
£1590.
British Blue steers, at 16 months of age, sold up to £1570 with another 22-month-old
British Blue steer, from CP Tomlinson of Longsdon at £1450.
Saler steers from FH Wright of Shottle at 22 months of age, sold for
£1500 and a Hereford from the same farmers, at 18 months of age, realised
£1405.
Simmental steers, from Ken Gould of Thorncliffe achieved £1300 and Charolais
steers from David Wilson, at 24 months of age, realising £1285.
A pair of Friesian steers at 30 months of age, from Dan Perkins of
Newtown, achieved £1170 and a Bazadaise, from Alan Buxton of Bollington, at 17
months of age, realised £1115.
Belted Galloway steers were particularly well sold, from The Moss Family
of Meerbrook, at 17 months of age, at £1110.
Younger cattle sold up to £1165 for 11-month-old Charolais, from Eric
Hudson of New Mills, and £1160 for an 8-month-old Limousin, from Philip Watson
of Marple, with another 11 month old Limousin, from The Rowlinson Family of
Gawsworth, selling particularly well at £1135.
Average for Steers was £925.
Heifers
There were 203 Heifers on offer with a top price of £1675 for a 25-month-old
Limousin, from Jason Jervis of Cheadle, with another 21-month-old Limousin
heifer at £1540 and a pair at 20 months old, from The Mellor Family of Sutton,
at £1540 also.
Aberdeen Angus heifers from AJ Mellor of Sutton, at 29 months of age,
were wells old at £1590 with a pair of 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifers,
from FH White of Shottle, at £1535.
British Blue heifers, from FH White also, at 22 months of age, sold for
£1490 with David Wilson realising £1480 for a 25-month-old British Blue heifer.
Hereford heifers, from Roy Shore of Biddulph, at 23 months of age, being
the last lot of the day, achieved £1320 with Shorthorn heifers at 21 months of
age, from FH White, at £1295.
Younger cattle sold up to £1130 for a 13-month-old Simmental heifer from
Ken Gould with 8 month old Limousin heifers, from Philip Watson, achieving £900
and The Kidd Family from Quarnford, selling up to £880, for a 9 month old
Limousin heifer also.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £940.81.
