An entry of 484 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, another good entry with plenty of trade for all sections and types.
Breeding Section
There was a shortage of quality breeding cattle with Pedigree Aberdeen Angus breeding heifers from A R Capewell of Checkley up to £1475, £1275 and £1180 and Incalf Hereford heifers from E T Simpson of Winkhill selling up to £1240 and £1180. A Hereford cow with a Hereford male calf at foot from Michael Harrison of Whiston exchanged hands for £1100.
Dexter cows with a Dexter young bull calf at foot from Mr S J Booth of Warburton sold well for £400.
Breeding bulls from Mr Napier of Coalville sold up to £1740 for an 18 month old pure bred Simmental.
Young Bulls
There were 21 young bulls on offer topping at £940 and 2, 10 month old Blonde bulls from Messrs Turner of Radmore Lane at £870, 17 month old Simmental bulls from Stephen Fox of Knypersley at £940.
A Hereford bull from Mark Cotterill of Knutton at 9 months old at £785. 2, 12 and 15 months old Simmental bulls from Messrs Sutton of Congleton at £825 and 4, 11 month old Hereford bulls of Bostock Bros of Biddulph at £750.
Overall average for young bulls was £704.29.
Steers
There were 262 steers on offer with a very similar firm trade seeing 4 Hereford well framed steers at 22 months of age from Dave Edge of Lach Dennis at £1700 with another 21 month old Hereford bull from Geoff Wain of Brandside at £1550 and a single 24 month old Hereford bull from Beryl Kirkham of Leek at £1490.
3 Limousin at 22 months old at £1575 from J Gilman & Partners of Bosley and another 3 from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at 22 months of age at £1530 and another pair from J Gilman & Partners at 22 months of age again at £1530.
A 17 month old Limousin from Ben Rowlinson of Bottomhouse sold well at £1405 and a 13 month old Limousin from B Pegg of Sturston at £1300.
Simmentals topped at £1435 for a bunch of 3, 21 month old from Steve Fox of Knypersley and another 3 from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at 19 months of age at £1405 and a single from Roy and June Shore of Biddulph at 24 months of age at £1405.
A pair of 28 month old Angus from Glyn Redfern of Onecote sold well for £1400 with another pair 18 month old from T & R Allen at £1350 and a single 14 month old Angus from Ben Rowlinson of Bottomhouse at £1290.
A pair of British Blue steers at 25 months of age from Messrs Gould of Waterhouses topped at £1385 with a 12 month old British Blue steer from B Pegg of Sturston selling particularly well at £1380 and a 22 month old British Blue from Roy and June Shore of Biddulph at £1370 and another pair of 18 month old British Blue steers from T & R Allen at £1365.
Friesians were well sold seeing a top price of £1245 at 24 months of age with a Shorthorn from G & E Fallows of Whiston at 23 months of age at £1200.
12 month old Angus steers from J & R Cowap of Crewe topped at £1095 and a pair of 11 month old British Blue steers from Jeff Turner of Okeover at £1075.
Overall average for steers was a pleasing £938.84.
Heifers
There were 187 heifers on offer seeing a top price of £1620 for an 18 month old Hereford from Dave Edge of Lach Dennis with a bunch of 3, 22 month old Herefords from the same vendor again selling well at £1570 and a pair of 23 month old Herefords from Messrs Hicklin of Onecote at £1290.
British Blue heifers from Beryl Kirkham at 24 months of age sold up to £1450 with another single from K A Prins of Cheadle at £1365 and a pair of 23 month old British Blue heifers from Reg Critchlow of Grindon at £1355.
A bunch of 3, 12 month old Limousin heifers from M A Bowyer of Wetley Rocks sold for £990 with Shorthorns at 17 months of age from Messrs Challinor of Dilhorne at £1010.
Other smaller cattle sold up to £975 for a 10 month old Limousin Heifer from Gavin Peach of Warslow, £930 for a 10 month old Hereford from the same vendor and a bunch of 3, 12 month old Limousins from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth topped at £910.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £829.22.
