There were 581 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer with an excellent trade throughout with the stores generally being dearer than a fortnight ago, particularly the stronger sorts.
Breeding Section
There was an increased entry which saw feeding cows up to £1800 for Mr Williams of Waterhouses, £1580 for a pair from Mr B Goldstraw of Winkhill and £1570 for a Limousin from Norton Green.
A Hereford cow with a young Hereford heifer calf at foot from Tixall sold up to £1490 with a Cross bred cow with a young Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot, from the same vendor, also realising £1490.
Young Bulls
Top price was £2010 for a 24-month-old Limousin from Joe Austin of Parwich with a bunch of five 23-month-old Limousin bulls from R & M Phillips & Sons of Buxton at £1560 and a 28-month-old Limousin bull from B Goldstraw of Winkhill at £1760.
Steers
There were 232 steers on offer with a top price being £2630 for a 36-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer from Roston Farms ltd of Roston with another 30-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer from Messrs Shann of Sheen achieving £2470 and an 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Ben Rowlinson of Winkhill at £2270.Dennis Jeffery from Roston sold his 25-month-old Aberdeen Angus for £2100.
Limousin steers from Roston Farms Ltd of Roston, at 35 months of age, achieved up to £2550 with another 34-month-old Limousin from the same vendor at £2370 and a 22-month-old Limouisn from James Swindells of Leek sold to £2180 with Ben Rowlinson realising £2160 for a pair of 17-month-old Limousin. A single 13-month-old Limousin from Alan Swindells of Elkstones achieved £2150 several other good Limousin steers achieved over £2000.
Charolais steers from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks, at 22 months old, topped at £2500 with a bunch of five 20-month-old Charolais steers from Messrs Shann of Sheen achieving £2130.
British Blue steers at 15 months of age, from Ben Rowlinson, were particularly well sold at £2430 with a single 25-month-old British blue steer from Pilkington Farms of Hartington at £2350 and a 20-month-old British Blue steer from Steve Machin of Stanley sold to £2250.
Simmental steers, from James Swindells of Leek, at 21 months old, achieved up to £2285 with a Holstein steer selling particularly well at 35 months of age to £2150 from Charles Plant of Elkstones and Hereford steers topped at £2120 for a 21-month-old steer from TW Carnwell & Sons of Kingsley.
A bunch of four 21-month-old Shorthorn steers from P & C Palfreyman of Monyash achieved £2000 and a 22-month-old Blonde steer from James Swindells achieved £1990.
A bunch of three 19-month-old Saler steers from The Red Lion Inn at Hilderstone were bid for keenly at £1970 and another 25-month-old Saler from Rosie Watson of Fenny Bentley achieved £1940.
Bazadaise steers from Messrs Shann of Sheen, at 20 months old, sold up to £1900 and £1890 for another Bazadaise at 22 months of age.
Younger cattle sold up to £1780 for a single 10-month-old steer from Gavin Peach of Warslow with a bunch of four South Devon steers from Keith and Alison Wilton of Buxton selling for £1700. A 10-month-old Limousin for WJ Braddock of Hulme sold to £1680 with another bunch of six 10-month-old Limousin at £1660 from Gavin Peach. Three more 11-month-old South Devon steers from Keith and Alison Wilton sold for £1640 with another three at 10 months old at £1600 from the same vendor.
The overall average achieved for steers was an extremely pleasing £1500.34.
Heifers
There were 286 heifers on offer seeing a top price of £2420 for a 20-month-old Aberdeen Angus for RJ & JM Hall of Stockley Park with a 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer from AD & J Potts of Astbury at £2420 and a 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus from the same vendor at £2230. A bunch of three 20-month-old Simmental heifers from AD & J Potts sold for £2310 with a single 22-month-old Simmental from TW Carnwell & Sons of Kingsley selling for £2260 and an 18-month-old Simmental from Sam Jolley of Milton at £2240.
Hereford heifers from William Knight & Family of Horton sold up to £2250 at 22 months of age with a 24-month-old Hereford from Steve Machin of Stanley at £2170.
Limousin heifers from David Milner of Buxton, at 28 months of age, were well sold up to £2240 with a single from Ben Rowlinson of Winkhill at 20 months of age at £2210.
British Blue heifers from DW Myatt & Partners of Endon, at 18 months of age, sold for £2090 and another pair from Sam Jolley at 18 months of age also at £2060.
Four Stabilser heifers from Hartswood Farming, at 20 months of age, achieved £2010 with Charolais heifers up to £2000 for a 26-month-old beast for Messrs Shann of Sheen and also for a 21-month-old Charolais from Tom Allen of Foxt.
Younger cattle achieved up to £1550 for a bunch of four 10-month-old British Blue heifers from Robert Flower of Alstonefield with a single 13-month-old British Blue heifer from Norton Green selling for £1440.
A bunch of five 10-month-old Limousin heifers from Gavin Peach of Warslow achieved £1370.
The overall average achieved for heifers was £1296.
