There was an excellent entry of 707 store and breeding cattle on offer with plenty of trade for all sections.
Breeding Section
There was a particularly strong entry of suckler cows and calves with top prices achieved of £1300 for a British Blue heifer with a British Blue 1 month old calf at foot from A Slater & Sons of Mayfield with a Hereford heifer due to calf to the Blonde bull from the same vendors selling particularly well for £1265.
A older Limousin x cow from J & D Proudlove of Congleton with a Simmental male calf at foot was well sold at £1260 with a herd dispersal from Philip Williams of Tean of Longhorn cattle meeting good competition seeing a top price of £1500 for a Short Horn x cow with an Angus male calf and £1480 for a South Devon x cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot. Other similar outfits selling up to £1370, £1360 (4 times) and £1340.
A British Blue, second calf heifer from Martyn Wright of Buxton sold with a Limousin heifer calf at foot was well sold at £1390.
A Limousin x stock bull at 75 months of age from Chris Barnsley of Thorncliffe received good interest and exchanged hands for £1500 with a 46 month old Simmental bull from J & B Proudlove of Congleton at £1260.
Steers
There were 274 steers on offer with a top price being £1360 for an excellent shaped Hereford steer from Phillip Nixon of Congleton at 23 months of age with a bunch of 3, 26 month old Herefords from Robert Chaddock exchanging hands for £1120.
A 24 month old Limousin from J L Mellor & Partners of Macclesfield sold for £1330 with a pair of 18 month old Limousins from Malcolm Ollerenshaw at £1185 and a single 24 month old Limousin from D & A Stonier of Congleton at £1170.
A Blonde Steer from Phillip Nixon at 23 months of age sold for £1295 with another from the same vendor of similar age at £1280 and a third 18 month old Blonde steer again from Phillip Nixon at £1220.
An Aberdeen Angus steer again from Phillip Nixon at 23 months of age sold for £1290 with a 23 month old Angus steer from Messrs Mycock of Grindon at £1260 and a 16 month old Angus steer from Tom Campbell of Cheadle at £1265 with another bunch of 3, 23 month old Angus from the same vendor at £1250.
A bunch of 4 Longhorn steers from Reg Potter of Yeaveley at 21 months of age exchanged hands for £1295 with a pair of 23 month old Friesians from the same vendor at £1075.
Simmental steers at 13 months of age from A & L Worthington of Knutsford sold for £970.
Younger steers exchanged hands up to £895 for a bunch of 5, 11 month old Shorthorn steers
from G G Hall & Sons of Croxton with a single 9 month old Charollais from S & S Brain of
Cresswell at £880.
Overall average for steers was a pleasing £804.16
Heifers
There were 327 heifers on offer with a top price being £1295 paid for a good shaped 25
month old Limousin heifer from Phillip Nixon with another 28 month old Limousin from S A
Allcock of Waterhouses at £1230 and a 23 month old Limousin from Phillip Nixon at £1220
and a pair of 25 month old Limousins from D & A Stonier of Congleton at £1190.
Simmental heifers at 25 months of age from Phillip Nixon sold up to £1195 with a pair of 22
month old Herefords from Jason Jervis of Cheadle at £1180 and a single 35 month old
Hereford from Messrs Mycock of Grindon at £1160. British Blue heifers from Messrs
Fallows of Congleton at 21 months of age sold for £1085.
Younger heifers achieved up to £955 for a 14 month old Limousin from A & L Worthington
of Knutsford and a pair of 14 month old Angus from the same vendor at £900.
A bunch of 6, 11 month old British Blue heifers from David Machin of Rudyard sold for
£890 and a bunch of 3, 10 month old Charolais from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington at
£870.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £726.65.
