There was a total entry of 640 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer.
Breeding Section
Again, there was a short supply of Suckler Cows with a Flekveih Cow with a Blonde Heifer calf at foot, from Mr Haynes of Uttoxeter, achieving £1260 and a Hereford cow with a young Highland Bull calf at foot, from Intake Farm Ipstones, achieving £1100.
Young Bulls
There was a small entry, with a 12-month-old Limousin Bull, from MJD Farms of Alstonefield, achieving £800 and a pair of 10-month-old Shorthorn Bulls, from the same farmers, selling for £790.
Steers
There were 381 Steers on offer with an excellent top price of £2100 paid for South Devon Steers at 22 months of age, from Mr N Roobottom of Burton on Trent. The same farmer sold another bunch of four, at 23 months of age, again South Devons, for £1950, a third bunch of 22-month-old South Devons for £1895
and a fourth bunch, at 22 months of age, at £1690.
A Limousin Steer, from Bernard Higginson of Swythamley, at 22 months of age, was well sold at £1725 with an 18-month-old Limousin, from Arthur Swinson of Gawsworth, at £1710 and a pair of 23-month-old Limousins, again from Bernard Higginson, at £1710 also.
Hereford Steers, from Tony Millward of Dilhorne, at 24 months of age, were bid for keenly up to £1685 with others from the same farmer at 24 months of age at £1450 and £1430.
British Blue steers, from Bernard Higginson, at 27 months of age, achieved up to £1620, a bunch of three 19-month-old Charolais, from G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks, at £1590 and an Aberdeen Angus from Arthur Swinson of Gawsworth, at 19 months of age, at £1555. Another bunch of three 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus from the same farmer achieved £1550 and a 29-month-old Aberdeen Angus from G Redfern of Onecote reached £1540.
Simmental steers from JE Swindells of Elkstones, at 16 months of age, topped at £1280.
Shorthorn steers from Challinors of Dilhorne, at 23 months of age, sold for £1185 and Holsteins, at 17 months of age, from Messrs Seabridge of Barlaston at £1155.
Younger cattle sold up to £1360, for an 11-month-old Limousin from Michael Turner of Grindon with another 10-month-old Limousin, from the same farmer at £1320 and a bunch of four 10 month old Limousin, from AJ Peach of Warslow at £1255 and 10 month old Limousins, from WS Hudson & Son of Ilam at £1230.
South Devon steers, from Keith and Alison Wilton of Buxton, sold up to £1210 at 11 months of age and a British Blue 9-month-old steer, from E Morley & Sons of Ashbourne at £1210.
Overall average achieved for Steers was a pleasing £1068.45.
Heifers
There were 251 Heifers on offer, with again some excellent prices, seeing Charolais top at £1520 for an 18-month-old Heifer from E Vaughan of Newcastle-under-Lyme with Limousin Heifers, at 21 months of age, from Robert and Andy Williamson of Wetley Rocks, at £1515 and a 22-month-old Limousin from the same farmers at £1465.
Simmental Heifers from John Hudson of Ipstones, at 24 months of age, sold for £1410 with British Blue Heifers, from Keith Sessions of Asbourne, at £1390 and a Shorthorn Heifer, at 29 months of age, from the Challinor family of Dilhorne at £1375.
Aberdeen Angus Heifers, at 27 months of age, sold up to £1285 from Mrs Mees of Stone and Hereford Heifers from Tony Millward of Dilhorne, at 25 months of age, achieving up to £1240.
Younger cattle sold up to £1170, for an 8 month old Limousin, from Philip Watson of Marple with a 10 month old Limousin, from David Naylor of Glossop, at £1140, an 11 month old Limousin, from WS Hudson & Son of Ilam, at £1100 and a bunch of three 10 month old Limousin, from AJ Peach of Warslow, at £1060.
The overall average achieved for Heifers was £889.72.
