Store Cattle Sale Report 6th August 2022

An entry of 421 store and breeding cattle were on offer, a decent entry for the time of the year and a good company of buyers and attendance for all types of cattle.

Breeding Section
An entry of British Blue heifers with Limousin calves at foot from Mr AE Allcock of Waterhouses sold up to £1980 for a heifer with a Limousin steer calf at foot with another similar outfit at £1850 and £1610. British Blue heifers with Limousin heifer calves at foot from the same vendor sold at £1500 and £1400.

A Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from A L Johnson of Lichfield sold at £1470 with an entry from S Kidd Farmers of Longnor up to £1240 for a Hereford cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot and £1235 for a British Blue cow with a Saler bull calf at foot.

A good quality pedigree Limousin bull from Messrs Lockett of Rushton Spencer at 46 months of age was bid for keenly and sold for £2900. A 38 month old Limousin bull from James Burke Ltd achieved £1380.

Young Bulls
There were 33 young bulls on offer with the top price being £1240 for a 17 month old Limousin bull from Joe Austin of Parwich with a 11 month old bull from the same vendor at £1150 and Simmental bulls from George Bailey of Rushton at 12 months of age up to £890.

A 10 month old Charolais bull from Eric Hudson of New Mills achieved £880.

Overall average achieved for young bulls was £614.24 including a number of smaller cattle.

Steers
There 213 steers of offer with a top price being £1540 paid for a 22 month old British Blue steer from Messrs Carbutt of Siddington with another British Blue, 24 month old steer from Ken Grocott of Leigh at £1425 and a 26 month old British Blue steer from Critchlow Bros of Sheen at £1335.

South Devon steers from LS Cattle Limited of Kedleston at 26 months of age sold well at £1480 with another similar aged beast from the same vendor at £1440.

An Aberdeen Angus steer from D & J Haslam of Marston Montgomery at 25 months of age exchanged hands at £1450 with a bunch of 3, 23 month old Angus steers from R A Bradbury of Kingsley at £1435 and a single 27 month old Angus steer from ME & DJ Gregory of Drointon at £1360.

Hereford steers at 24 months of age from Ken Grocott of Leigh were well sold up to £1330 with a bunch of 3 from George Norbury at 17 months of age at £1255.

Simmental steers topped at £1150 for a 12 month old from Jim Bennison of Ipstones with a pair of Belted Galloways at 25 month old steers from John Goldstraw of Waterhouses at £1280 and a Shorthorn 15 month old Steer from Don Burton of Rough Close at £1070. Dairy Shorthorn steers at 21 months of age from the same vendor sold up to £1000. A Montbeliarde steer at 23 months of age from Tim Evans achieved £945.

Younger cattle sold up to £920 for a pair of 9 month old Limousin steers from F A Yates & Co of Alstonefield with a pair of 8 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £915 and a bunch of 7, 11 month old Angus steers from S Pennington & Son of Altrincham at £840.

Overall average achieved for steers was £842.56

Heifers
There were 135 heifers which topped at £1465 for a 22 month old British Blue heifer from Messrs Carbutt of Siddington with a 25 month old British Blue heifer from Critchlow Bros of Sheen at £1255 and a 23 month old British Blue from Messrs Carbutt of £1195.

A bunch of 3, 23 month old Angus heifers from R A Bradbury of Kingsley sold for £1290 with a single 24 month old Angus heifer from D & J Haslem of Marston Montgomery at £1200.

Limousin heifers from Jack Hassall of Oakamoor were well sold up to £1285 at 25 months of age with another 23 month old beast from the same vendor at £1275 and Charolais heifers from RJ & JM Hall of Burton on Trent at £1265. A pair of 24 month old Saler heifers from Mrs Ann Beech of Milton sold for £1120 and a 21 month old Montbeliarde heifer from FA & TM Cotton of Tean at £1110.

A 34 month old Holstein heifer from June Sherratt sold for £1095.

Younger cattle sold up to £860 for a 12 month old Limousin from FA Yates & Co of Alstonefield with a 12 month old Angus heifer from S Pennington & Son of Altrincham at £750.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £769.18.
