Store Cattle Sale Report 7th January 2023

A small entry of cattle with trade very firm throughout for all types.

Breeding Section
There were 2 feeding cows on offer which were well sold up to £905 for a Limousin x from the Wain Family of Upper Hulme with another White Shorthorn at £765.

A cow and calf from Messrs Bower of Hyde exchanged hands for £975.

Young Bulls
There was only a small entry of young bulls on offer with an 11 month old Hereford from Frank Belfield of Meerbrook exchanging hands for £490.

Steers
There were 165 steers on offer with some excellent prices achieved up to £1495 for a bunch of 3, South Devon 21 month old steers from Ian Hollis of Burton on Trent with the same vendor selling another bunch of 3 South Devon steers at 20 months of age for £1480 and others at similar age at £1465 and £1415.

Limousin steers from P J Davenport of Calton topped at £1385 with another Limousin from Messrs Yates of Alstonefield at £1280 at 13 months of age and Herefords up to £1245 from John Brookes of Crakemarsh at 23 months of age.

Charolais steers from the same vendor sold up to £1210 at 18 months of age with a single British Blue Steer at 26 months of age from Peter Ward at £1190, Angus up to £1190 also for a bunch of 5, 24 months old steers from Joseph Torr Limited of Macclesfield with 17 month old Limousin steers selling well up to £1185 from Mark Rowlinson of Ramshorn.

A bunch of 3, 21 month old Saler steers from Adam and Ann James of Horton achieved £1155 with another bunch of 23 month old Angus steers from Joseph Torr Limited selling for £1120. A single Longhorn steer from PJ Davenport of Calton at 21 months of age exchanged hands for £1120 and a Montbeliarde steer from Old Hall Farm Partners of Betley at 27 months of age realising £1100.

A bunch of 4, very good quality 8 month old Limousin steers from Jonathan Hall of Longnor were particularly well sold at £1000. Another pair of 12 month old British Blue steers from Messrs Yates of Alstonefield achieved £970 and a British Blue steer at 9 months of age from Robert Frith at £850.

Overall average for steers was a pleasing £894.79.

Heifers
There were 58 heifers on offer with a top price being £1200 for a 21 month old Longhorn heifer from PJ Davenport of Calton with George Hughes of Bucknall realising £1195 for a bunch of 4, British Blue heifers at 25 months of age with other British Blues up to £1095 from PJ Davenport at 22 months of age and £1090 for a pair of 26 month old British Blue heifers from Marcus Jones of Rudyard.

Limousin heifers from Mark Rowlinson at 18 months of age were particularly well sold at £990 with a 36 month old Angus heifer from R Taylor-Jackson selling for £965 and an 18 month old Longhorn heifer from PJ Davenport of Calton at £960.

Angus heifers from Mark Rowlinson at 18 months of age sold up to £885 with younger cattle selling up to £715 for a 10 month old Angus heifer from Robert Frith, £700 for a pair of 9 month old Simmental heifers from the same vendor with the overall average achieved being £770.26.
