An entry of 265 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, with trade similar to a fortnight ago and a decent company of buyers in attendance for all types of stock.
Breeding Section
There were some decent outfits on offer which met with some good competition topping at £2020 paid for a British Blue heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from June Sherratt of Meerbrook, the same vendor selling an Angus heifer with a Hereford male calf at foot for £1510.
A Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Messrs Bradbury of Ipstones sold for £1630 and a British Blue cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot from the same vendor at £1460. A Charolais cow with a Blonde bull calf at foot from Messrs Allsopp of Bagnall sold for £1710 with a Pedigree Angus heifer with a Angus steer calf at foot from Messrs Griffin of Alstonefield at £1330.
Feeding cows from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield were bid for keenly and topped at £1020 with two more at £1010.
Breeding heifers from Darren Barlow of Warslow sold up to £1240 for Herefords and £1205 with a Aberdeen Angus breeding heifer from Ray Turner of Rownall at £1235.
Young Bulls
Top price of the day was £920 for a 14 month old Simmental bull from Messrs Hedges of Ashbourne with a 10 month old Limousin from Messrs Bradbury of Ipstones at £790 and a number of smaller sorts producing an overall average of £510.63.
Steers
There were 139 steers on offer with some good prices being achieved seeing a top price of £1450 for a bunch of 3, 23 month old Limousins from Colin Lymer of Cheddleton, with other Limousins up to £1190 for a 11 month old from Messrs Moss of Rushton and £1160 for a bunch of 7, 12 month old Limousins from Messrs Carr of Waterfall.
A bunch of 3, 10 month old Limousins from Louise Potts of Mottram St Andrews were well sold at £1040 with Montbeliarde steers up to £1325 for 3, 25 month old steers from Messrs Critchlows of Sheen. Other 22 month old Montbeliarde from the same vendors sold for £1130 with Simmentals up to £1200 for a good shaped 11 month old Simental from Messrs Robinson of Swythamley with a pair of British Blue 13 month old steers from Keith Minshull of Bosley at £1180 and a 24 month old Hereford from Messrs Horsford of Croxden at £1100 at 24 months of age.
Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs Davenport of Leekbrook topped at £1030 at 13 months of age with another 19 month old Angus from the same vendor at £1000. Fleckvieh steers from Critchlow Bros of Sheen sold up to £990 at 18 months of age with Shorthorns at 15 months of age from Messrs Hall of Croxden at £985. A Red Poll 23 month old steer from Messrs Moss of Rushton sold for £950 and Holsteins up to £935 for a bunch of 3, 20 month old Holsteins from Tim Evans of Rough Close.
Overall average achieved for steers was £855.49.
Heifers
There were 79 heifers on offer which sold to a top price of £1455 for a 27 month old Limousin from Dave Edgecox of Onecote with a pair of 20 month old Limousins from Colin Lymer of Cheddleton at £1360 and a pair of 27 month old Angus from Critchlow Bros of Sheen at £1320, Herefords up to £990 for a 27 month old from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook and a bunch of 3, British Blue heifers from Dave and Robert Machin of Rudyard at a £1060.
A 13 month old Limousin from Jeff Barlow of Froghall sold for £820 with an overall average achieved of £793.64.
