There was a record entry of 810 Store and Breeding cattle on offer with an excellent company of buyers in attendance ensuring a firm trade for all types of stock.
Breeding Section;
There was a shortage of best quality with a pedigree Shorthorn cow with a Shorthorn heifer calf at foot from Emma Trueman of Quarnford sold for £1400, a Blue cow with a Charolais bull calf at foot from Kidd Farmers of Longnor selling for £1390 and a British Blue heifer with a Saler heifer calf from the same home at £1260.
An in-calf Longhorn cow from R W Potter & Co of Yeaveley sold for £1360 with others at £1260 and £1190. A Limousin heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Messrs Shann of Sheen sold for £1180 with another similar outfit at £1120.
There were 2 stock bulls on offer with a 34 month old Saler from S Kidd Farmers from Longnor which exchanged hands for £1630 with a 47 month old Charolais from Ian Woodwood of Duffield at £1470
Young Bulls;
Top price was £1050 for a 15 month old British Blue bull from MJ Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone with a pair of Continental bulls from Messrs Wain of Upper Hulme at 11 months of age selling for £940 and an 11 month old South Devon bull from Keith and Alison Wilton of Daisy Mere at £810.
Overall average achieved for young bulls was £694.11.
Steers;
There were 471 steers on offer with a top price being £1480 achieved for a pair of 23 month old Limousins from J & W Knight of Horton with another Limousin at 21 months of age from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone at £1390 and a bunch of 4, 22 month old Limousins from J Tavernor & Co of Farley Corner, Litchfield at £1350. A 15 month old Limousin from Messrs Hall of Highwood, Uttoxeter sold for £1300 with £1235 being achieved for a 20 month old Limousin from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks.
South Devon steers at 22 months of age from L S Cattle Limited of Onecote, exchanged hands for £1460 with a bunch of 4, 20 month old Angus from S Pennington & Sons of Altrincham at £1425 and a single 20 month old Angus from Arthur and Nora Swinson at £1410 and a 24 month old Angus from Jack Hassall of Oakamoor selling well for £1405. Messrs Mycock of Cauldon sold a 21 month old Angus for £1400 with a pair of 22 month olds from Arthur and Nora Swinson at £1340.
Charolais’s topped at £1395 for a pair of 21 month old steers from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks with another pair from the same farmer at 22 months of age selling for £1360.
Simmental steers from Arthur and Nora Swinson at 15 months of age sold up to £1390 with another 24 month old Simmental from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone at £1325.
A British Blue steer from Ian Cook was particularly well sold at 12 months of age for £1260 with other British Blue steers up to £1195 for a bunch of 3, 20 month old steers from A & L Worthington of Knutsford and £1160 for a 25 month old British Blue from Arthur and Nora Swinson and £1155 for a bunch of 5, 18 month old steers from David and Sue Curtis of Basford.
Another pair of 12 month old British Blue steers from Ian Cook of Biddulph were well sold for £1120.
Hereford steers from Messrs Mycock of Cauldon at 21 months of age sold up to £1255 with a pair from Arthur and Nora Swinson at 20 months of age at £1235 and a pair of 15 month old Herefords from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone at £1175.
Younger cattle sold up to £1060 for a Bunch of 6, 11 month old South Devons from Keith and Alison Wilton of Daisy Mere with another bunch of 6, South Devons at 12 months of age at £1040 from the same farmers. A pair of 10 month old Limousin steers from Gavin Peach sold for £1020 and a bunch of 3, Limousin steers from Andrew and Tim Carr at £1000 at 11 months of age.
A shorthorn steer at 11 months of age from Emma Trueman of Quarnford sold for £920.
Overall average achieved for steers was £875.27.
Heifers;
There were 289 heifers on offer with a top price being £1285 paid for a bunch of 3, British Blue heifers at 23 months of age from J Tavernor & Co of Lichfield with a pair of British Blue heifers at 24 months of age from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone at £1230 and another bunch of 5, British Blue heifers from the same farmer at £1200. £1200 was also paid for a bunch of 6, British Blue heifers from A & L Worthington of Knutsford.
Charolais heifers from Graham Weston at 24 months of age sold for £1160 with a 19 month old Charolais from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks at £1080.
A bunch of 4, 23 month old Limousins from J Tavernor & Co of Lichfield sold for £1135 with a single 25 month old Limousin from George Hughes of Bucknall at £1110 and a bunch of 6, 21 month old Limousins from M J Brassington & Sons of Hilderstone at £1105.
Angus heifers from A & L Worthington of Knutsford at 21 months of age sold for £1125 with Hereford heifers up to £1125 also from Ann Beech of Milton at 27 months of age.
Younger cattle sold up to £980 for a 10 month old Limousin from Gavin Peach of Warslow with another pair of 10 month old Limousins from the same farmer at £945 and a 12 month old Angus from Anthony Allcock of Waterhouses at £930.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £798.75.
