Store Cattle Sale Report 27th September

There were 557 head of cattle on offer on Saturday with plenty of buyers around the ring and spirited bidding throughout.

Breeding Section
A Montbeliarde cow with an Aberdeen Angus X male calf topped the breeders at £1690 for C Plant of Elkstones who also sold a Longhorn cow with a Hereford X male calf which achieved £1360.

J Bettany of Bagnall sold two Hereford cows with heifer calves to £1270 and £1240.

A pair of breading Hereford heifers at 24 months old sold to £1470 and £1250 for E T Simpson of Winkhill.

Stock Bulls
A Pedigree Simmental bull at 18 months old sold to £3100 for J A Duggins & Son of Swadlincote.

Young Bulls
Simmental also topped the young bulls with a pair at 16 and 17 months old from J Wainwright & Sons of Macclesfield achieving £2220 and £1800. A 19-month-old Simmental from N & K Goddard of Glossop sold to £2050.

Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £1610 twice for an 8-month-old and a 15-month-old from R M Simcock of Rainow.

Steers
There were 307 steers on offer with the top price of £2340 being achieved for a 23-month-old British Blue for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with a trio of British Blue at 19 months old selling to £1960 for JE Carr of Cheddleton and a single 16 month old British Blue selling to £1870 for Robert Flower of Alstonefield.

A pair of 28-month-old Hereford steers sold to £2240 for E T Simpson of Winkhill, a bunch of four Herefords at 21 months sold to £1920 for D & D Gould of Waterhouses and a trio of Herefords at 18 months old sold to £1920 for G R Simcock of Endon.

A 27-month-old Limousin sold to £2210 for James Swindells of Leek with Peter Richardson and Family of Ipstones selling a 24-month-old Limousin to £2110 and a 22-month-old Limousin to £2090 and a bunch of four Limousin steers at 17 months old sold to £1910 for DH & J Lovatt of Rushton Spencer.

Four Aberdeen Angus steers at 23 months old sold to £2180 for FH White of Shottle who also had another at 27 months selling to £2160. A single Aberdeen Angus at 22 months old sold to £2110 for SP Tomlinson of Denford and a trio of Aberdeen Angus at 21 months old sold to £2100 for R & H Bates of Marton. A bunch of five Aberdeen Angus at 17 months old achieved £2040 for A G Mellor of Sutton.

A pair of 21-month-old Simmental sold to £2070 for Mark Simcock & Family of Endon.

Charolais steers at 16 months old sold to £1985 for TS Farms of Rainow, a single at 25 months old sold to £1985 for C & EJ Whilock of Werrington and 17-month-old Charolais sold to £1900 for J E Carr of Cheddleton.

Longhorn steers at 23 months old sold to £1930 for B Wood of Sandbach with a pair of 18-month-old Shorthorn steers achieving £1800 for Critchlow Bros of Sheen.

Holstein at 19 months sold to £1670 for R & H Bates & Sons, 19-month-old Montbeliarde sold to £1570 for Critchlow Bros and a 26-month-old Dexter sold to £1535 for Holmes Bros.

Younger cattle sold well with a pair of 13-month-old Limousin achieving £1720 for A H & T Carr of Waterfall and a pair of British Blue at 14 months sold to £1670 for D Machin of Rudyard. A 9-month-old Simmental sold to £1540 for T Etches of Longnor.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1368.51.

Heifers
199 heifers were on offer seeing a top price of £2110 for a 19-month-old Limousin from R Rowlinson & Son of Ramshorn who also had another pair at 17 months selling to £1970 and A P Wain of Forsbrook sold a Limousin at 27 months old at £2090.

Aberdeen Angus at 26 months old sold to £2100 for F H White of Shottle with another three at 25 months selling to £2080 for the same vendor and a single 28-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £2090 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe.

Shorthorn heifers at 29 months old sold to £2050 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe.

A bunch of four British Blue at 23 months old sold to £2010 for GS KM & PL Eyre of Tean, a 28-month-old sold to £1990 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe and a bunch of four at 24 months old sold to £1960 for F H White of Shottle.

Simmental heifers at 19 months old sold to £1860 for R Rowlinson & Son of Ramshorn, a 24-month-old Shorthorn sold to £1780 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe, a 19-month-old Charolais sold to £1645 for D & D Gould of Waterhouses with a bunch of three Hereford at 19 months old selling to £1600 for the same vendor.

In the younger cattle, a pair of 15-month-old Shorthorn sold to £1400 for A Rowlinson & Son of Ramshorn, a 14-month-old Limousin sold to £1380 for J W Harper of Ipstones and a 14-month-old Simmental sold to £1300 for T Etches of Longnor.

The overall average for heifers was £1287.51.
