Store Cattle Sale Report 15th August

A total of 418 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer this week seeing top prices of £2,500 for a 16-month-old Shorthorn Bull, £2280 for a 22-month-old Simmental Steer and £1900 (twice) for a pair 27-month-old Hereford Heifers and a pair of 30-month-old British Blue Heifers.

Breeding Section
Only small entries into the breeding cattle recently with only a handful of cows and calves available. Top price on the day was a Shorthorn cow with a Hereford X male calf reaching £2040 from E F & J E Beswick of Grindon who also had another similar outfit to £1800and an Aberdeen Angus cow with a Hereford X calf to £1780. An Aberdeen Angus suckler cow reached £1880 from MK & DL Griffin of Ashbourne.

Young Bulls
A 16-month-old Shorthorn bull topped the day at £2500 for PJ & N Townsend of Buxton with another one of the same age reaching £1900 for the same vendor. A 9-month-old British Blue bull reached £1400 for J C & M E Moss & Son, Meerbrook and a 9-month-old Aberdeen Angus reached the same price for the same vendor.

The overall average for young bulls was a very respectable £1452.50.

Steers
There were 226 steers on offer seeing a top price of £2280 for a 22-month-old Simmental from D Richardson of Ipstones who also had a pair of Simmental at 23 months old achieving £1950 and a pair at 22 months old sold to £1990 for S Fox of Biddulph.

A 23-month-old British Blue sold to £2240 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington who also had a trio at 23 – 25 months old to £2025, a bunch of five British Blue at 23 months old sold to £2050 from Barnslee at Rudyard, G Redfern of Onecote sold a British Blue at 30 months old to £1990 and P Gerrard of Cauldon had a British Blue at 19 months old to £1990 also.

A bunch of three 27-month-old Hereford steers achieved £2180 for L A J Turner of Rownall with another pair at 23 months old achieving £1920 for the same vendor and a bunch of five Hereford at 18 months old sold to £1880 for BP & JR Needham of Heaton.

Limousin steers at 22 months old sold to £2120 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington, a bunch of four at 30 months old sold to £2090 for C E Hine of Biddulph, P Gerrard of Cauldon had a 19-month-old Limousin to £2075 and S Machin from Stanley had a 17-month-old Limousin to £2060.

A 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £1850 for T Gardiner of Sandbach and L A J Turner of Rownall had an Aberdeen Angus at 26 months old to £1800.

A pair of Saler steers at 17 months old sold to £1810 for S Kidd of Longnor who also had a pair of 17-month-old Charolais to £1800.

Once again, younger cattle sold well with a 14-month-old Limousin to £1860 for W T Mardling & Son of Hilderstone who also had another Limousin at 10 months old which achieved £1780 and B & BM Rowlinson of Bottomhouse had a bunch of three Limousin at 14 months old to £1850 and a bunch of three at 13 months old to £1820.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1500.59

Heifers
There were 169 heifers on offer with the top price being £1900 (twice) for a pair of 27-month-old Hereford heifers for L A J Turner of Rownall and a pair of 30-month-old British Blue heifers from G Redfern of Onecote. A Single British Blue at 15 months old sold to £1850 for HJ & JH Ryan & Sons of Altrincham, a pair at 22 months old sold to £1850 for S & J Ryder of Dilhorne and a bunch of five at 20 months old sold to £1820 for D Machin of Rudyard.

An 18-month-old Limousin sold to £1855 for S Machin of Stanley with another Limousin at 17 months old to £1755 for the same vendor.

A Charolais heifer at 21 months old sold to £1810 for R E Heatley of Dilhorne.

A pair of Aberdeen Angus at 23 months old achieved £1730 for S & J Ryder of Dilhorne with a bunch of five at 24 months old selling to £1700 for WA Durose & Son of Ashbourne.

In the younger cattle, a pair of British Blue heifers at 14 months old sold to £1720 and £1710 for HJ & JH Ryan & Sons of Altrincham.

The overall average for heifers was £1331.57.
