Store Cattle Sale Report 1st August

A total of 397 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer this week seeing a top price of £2290 for a bunch of four Limousin steers.

Breeding Section
A small entry of breeding cattle in the entry this week seeing a Hereford cow with a male calf at foot achieve £2000 from R Wood of Flash who also had a pair of Belted Galloway cows, one with a bull calf and one with a heifer calf to £1860 and £1680. A pair of Aberdeen Angus suckler cows, PD’d in calf to the Aberdeen Angus bull, sold to £1800 and £1720.

Young Bulls
A pair of 12-month-old Holstein bulls sold to £1230 for C McMillan of Congleton who also had a 12-month-old Ayrshire to £1020 and a 16-month-old Holstein to £1010.

The overall average for young bulls was £900.53.

Steers
211 steers were on offer with a bunch of four Limousin at 31 months old topping the day at £2290 from C Hine of Biddulph. A single Limousin at 19 months old sold to £1980 from WT Mardling & Son of Hilderstone.

A 24-month-old British Blue steer achieved £2240 from IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington, a British Blue at 25 months old sold to £2110 from PW Massey of Macclesfield, a British Blue at 20 months old achieved £2060 for M Jones of Rudyard with a bunch of three at 22 months old reaching £2000 from W, A & PW Carbutt of Macclesfield and a single at 17 months old achieved £1970 from The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Stone.

A pair of 30-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £2180 for PW Massey of Macclesfield and a pair of Aberdeen Angus at 23 months old sold to £1970 and £1955 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington.

Hereford steers at 26 months old topped at £2010 for D & L Haynes of Stone and another Hereford at 18 months old sold to £2000 for O R Jones of Gnosall.

A Shorthorn steer at 22 months old achieved £1980 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe and a Shorthorn steer at 16 months old sold to £1950 from PJ Davenport of Calton.

A Charolais steer at 17months old sold to £1930 for R Collington of Wymeswold, a bunch of five 23-month-old Simmental sold to £1920 for D & M J Worthington of Macclesfield and a 24-month-old Flekvieh sold to £1900 for Critchlow Bros of Sheen.

Younger cattle sold well with a bunch of four 15-month-old Limousin selling to £1890 for WT Mardling & Son of Hilderstone who also had another bunch of four Limousin at 13 months old to £1780 and a trio of 14-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieved £1780 for ET & ME Pemberton of Cheadle.

The overall average for steers was a £1540.24 over £100/head increase on a fortnight ago!

 

Heifers
156 heifers were on offer with the younger cattle being the stars of the show seeing a Limousin at 14 months old topping at £1910 from W T Mardling of Hilderstone and a bunch of five Limousin at 13 months old achieving £1840 from the same vendor. A bunch of four 22-month-old Limousin sold to £1755 for A Shaw of Sturston.

A 30-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £1900 for P W Massey of Macclesfield, a bunch of four at 22 months old sold to £1785 for Critchlow Bros of Sheen and a pair at 24 months old sold to £1770 for Latham Partners of Weston on Trent.

A pair of 30-month-old British Blue heifers sold to £1790 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe, a bunch of five at 17 months old sold to £1750 for D Machin of Rudyard, a bunch of six at 23 months old achieved £1745 for BJ & BW Brunt & Sons of Wincle and a single at 24 months old sold to £1710 for Critchlow Bros of Sheen.

A pair of 18-month-old Hereford heifers sold to £1710 for O R Jones of Gnosall, a 25-month-old Simmental achieved £1690 for EM & CP Naden of Cheddleton and a 31-month-old Blonde sold to £1580 for Holmes Bros of Loscoe.

The overall average for heifers was £1402.44.
