Store Cattle Sale Report 25th April

A warm and sunny Spring Day in Leek on Saturday with some spirited bidding and some good prices achieved throughout, although the averages were a touch back on recent weeks.

Breeding Section
A good trade in the breeders this week with a Limousin cow and male calf topping at £2260 for Amy Seabridge of Hollywood.

A British Blue cow, in-calf to a Limousin bull, sold to £2240 for A M Sayer of Hilderstone, A P Freeman of Rugeley had a run of British Blue cows, in-calf to a Hereford bull, selling to £2200 and £1940 x3 and a British Blue suckler cow, sold free of the bull, achieved £1810 for Roughcote Limousins of Werrington.

Young Bulls
There were 23 young bulls on offer with a 7-month-old Limousin achieving £1720 for HJ & JH Ryan & Sons of Altrincham with the same vendor selling a 10- and 11-month-old British Blue bulls to £1720 and £1700.

The overall average for young bulls was £1063.86.

Steers
There were 311 steers on offer this week with the top price being £2320 for a Simmental at 23 months old from P & MA Lovatt of Gillow Heath. A bunch of five Simmental at 21 months old sold to £1915 for J Greatbatch of Wetley Rocks.

A pair of Charolais steers at 20 months old were joint top, and also sold to £2320, for AG Tomkinson of Thorpe with a bunch of three at 18 months old achieving £1990 for C & EJ Whilock of Werrington, a single at 22 months old sold to £1965 for J & I Knight of Horton and a pair at 20 months old achieved £1955 for R Worthington of Edale.

A 24-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieved £2160 for H Lomas & Son of Gawsworth, a bunch of three at 19 months old sold to £2080 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with another bunch of three at 19 months old achieving £2080 for the same vendor and a single at 17 months old sold to £2000 for PJ Cornes of Longsdon.

Limousin steers topped at £2100 at 23 months old for H & R Nash of Marchington, a single at 19 months of age sold to £2090 for W Allen of Butterton and a single at 27 months old achieved £2050 for H & R Nash also.

British Blue steers at 17 months old sold to £2090 for A & L Worthington of Knutsford and a bunch of three at 18 months old sold to £2000 for W Allen of Butterton.

A 22-month-old Hereford steer achieved £2050 for PJ & PA Mitchell of Fradswell who had another at 19 months old to £1900 and a single at 25 months old sold to £1920 for D Milner of Buxton.

A Blonde Steer at 22 months old sold to £1975 for J Swindells of Leek.

Younger cattle sold well with a 12-month-old Blonde achieving £1980 for TC James of Eccleshall who also had a second, also at 12 months, to £1955. A bunch of four 12-month-old Limousin sold to £1800 for HG Nutter of Grindon with another pair at the same age achieving £1790 for the same vendor.

The overall average for steers was a £1372.01.

Heifers
279 heifers were on offer, topping at £1990 for a bunch of three Charolais at 21 months old from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington, who also had a bunch of four at 20 months old to £1900 and a single Charolais at 21 months old sold to £1975 for R Worthington of Edale.

A 26-month-old Limousin heifer achieved £1990 for B & BM Rowlinson of Bottomhouse with another at 16 months old selling to £1940 for the same vendor.

A pair of 20-month-old British Blue heifers sold to £1945 for J, CA & DN Tomlinson of Ford with another pair at 15 months old achieving £1830 for NM Murphy of Packmoor.

Aberdeen Angus at 19 months old sold to £1940 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with another three at 20 months old selling to £1910 for the same vendor. A bunch of three at 22 months old achieved £1840 for H Lomas & Son of Gawsworth.

A single 23-month-old Simmental sold to £1870 for P & MA Lovatt of Gillow Heath with another at 22 months old selling to £1810 from the same farm.

A 25-month-old Hereford heifer sold to £1820 for J Jervis of Cheadle and a bunch of three Herefords at 20 months old sold to £1795 for J & I Knight of Horton.

A trio of 22-month-old Longhorn heifers sold to £1730 for H & R Nash of Marchington.

Younger cattle sold to £1800 for a pair of 11-month-old Limousin from DR Flower & Son of Alstonefield and HG Nutter of Grindon had a run of Limousin at 11 to 13 months old going on to achieve £1750, £1700 and £1630. A 12-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer achieved £1610 for G & R Waller of Macclesfield.

The overall average for heifers was £1242.20.
