That’s what dreams are made of. An unreal day in the dairy ring on Tuesday for the monthly pedigree day.
The catalogued entries, along with a few extras added up to 97 head and a remarkable day from start to finish. As usual, heifers led the way with a powerful pedigree heifer from the Meldamar herd of Messrs Shepherd selling for the days top price of £3000.
This heifer, by Pine-Tree Pursuit was giving 33lts ans was knocked down after a bidding battle to Andrew Hulme, Basford.
Following very close on the top price heifer and at only £10 less at £2990 was the only entry from Philip Critchlow at Cubley, his pedigree, Delta Rosebud sired heifer was giving 28kg and sold to a regular purchaser. Three more smart heifers sold between £2600 and £2840 with all the heifers levelling the day at £2121.
The day started with the cows and these were in high demand for the milkiest sorts, they topped at £2700 for (Lot 4) a second calver from the Braemar House herd of Norman & Harrison Mellor and Family. By Westcoast Alcove, she sold giving 55lts to Luke Neville, Tansley. His other two cows sold at £2250 and £2120. Two non-pedigree cows from Mick Hulse made £2400 and £2300 (both second calvers) with his 4th calving Montbeliarde X at £2180.
Four entries of Youngstock today with a dipaersal of 6 heifers from Messrs Mather, Lymm rising to £1900 for a pedigree In-calf heifer, due in September. Messrs Taylor, Bonsall sold ten In-calf heifers by British Friesian and Shorthorn bulls to £1560 and £1550 for heifers due in November. The days largest consignment came from Richard Brittlebank, Leigh who sold 40 served, bulling and stirk heifers, served heifers sold to £1290, yearlings to £980 with 6-month-old heifers to £620.
A simply superb day at Leek. More entries in the pipeline but for any information, give us a call.
