A blistering day in the dairy shed with the pedigree sale in full swing with a top of £3650

Calves still reaching top prices with a British Blue bull at £530 and British Blue and Simmental heifers both reaching £440, more calves needed to meet demand

Hoggs reached a top of 400p/kg and a top headage price of £233.10, more numbers required to meet demand

Ewes topped at £280, and Rams reached a high of £300

Pig trade sharper this week with a top price of 200p/kg for fats.

A good company of buyers in attendance today and everything was bid for very keenly.

Top price of the day was 233p/kg for a Galloway weighing 815p/kg to achieve the top price of the day which was a pleasing £1898.95 for JA & J Bilsborrow of Macclesfield.

A Limousin weighing 700kg achieved 229p/kg with a headage price of £1603 for D A Shuker and a 520kg Montbeliarde realised 226p/kg to achieve a top headage price of £1175.20.

An overage Hereford steer, weighing 445kg reached a top of 256p/kg for RA Lomas & Partners of Matlock.

Overall average achieved was 232.48p/kg with an average headage price of £1432.07.

CLEAN CATTLE
Top price of 248p/kg was achieved for a Dairy Shorthorn heifer weighing 475kg to reach £1178/head for RA Lomas & Partners of Matlock with another Dairy Shorthorn from the same vendor, weighing 415kg to reach a top headage price of £996.

Less pigs forward this week, trade sharper on the week with a quality entry. Top price for fats 200p, gilts generally a premium 190-200p, boars 165-180p and sows to 75p.

Cutters sold to 198p for S Bailey who had others to 196p. PF+PD Parsons to 192p, JA&B Minshull to 190p. PJ Saunders to 187p and 164p.

Bacon pigs sold to £200p for J Ball & 195p. Massie Farms to 197p, 196p, 195px2, 193p. J&B Fentem to 194p, 191p. PF+PD Parsons to 194p, 193p, 192p. C Hine to 192p, 190px2.

Heavies sold to 160p for J&B Fentem.

173kg clean gilt from S Bowers to 75p

Sows to 62p for PJ Saunders, 61p for R Rowlinson. 60p for G&A Pawson. 58p for A Worth.

Just when you think trade can’t be bettered it reaches another height altogether with all classes selling at a blistering pace.
In total, 7 passed the £3000 mark with 5 heading north of £3500 to top at £3650 for a Pine – Tree Pursuit daughter from Brian and June Needham of Rushton Spencer. Purchased by Andrew Hulme of Basford he also went on to take a Vogue Solar Power daughter from the same home at £3600. A third heifer, from the same home by Farnear Delta Lambda reached £3500 to Ed Clowes of Kingsley.

Two other heifers reached £3600, the first from the Nadin family of Buxton was clinched by Rich Torr of Tissington and the second from Eric Weston of Roston was purchased by Luke Neville of Tansley.
Cows topped at £3200 for a 12 generation VG/EX second calver, again from the Nadin family. She headed to the Bradbury family of Earl Sterndale. Another second calver from the Broadley family made £2950 to Sam Bailey of Enson Lane.
Ayrshires were keenly sought after peaking at £2650 for a third calver from the Needham family of Bradnop.
In-calf heifers from Richard Lomas topped at £2450 for a Rubicon daughter to A Myatt.
All milkers averaged a phenomenal £2570.
A date for the diary is the up-and-coming herd dispersal on behalf of the Wellwood family. Nearly all fresh it is not one to miss.

A similar entry but a lot of underfinished sorts forward which is a shame, but competitive bidding for all.

Best lambs very sharp to a top of 400p/kg and plenty of best types at 360p/kg and better.

Best big lambs coming to £233.10 for outstanding lambs from Frank Heath.

Overall average at 332p/kg.
