More Lambs on offer today, seeing pleasing results, topping at 361p and a top headage price of £184.80.

94 Pigs forward on a bumper trade, seeing a top price of 240p/kg and a top headage price of £237.66.

Dairies on form with a top price of £3320 and an overall average in the dairy entries of £2228.

Calves a little short on numbers with the buyers left wanting more, seeing £428 for a Limousin bull and £345 for a British Blue heifer.

BARREN COWS

Selling time – 10:00am

A smaller entry but again, plenty of trade. Top price of the day was 183p/kg for a 545kg Hereford cow for J Salmon of Werrington with a 750kg Aberdeen Angus from John Hine of Biddulph achieving 172p/kg.

CLEAN CATTLE

A 575kg Friesian heifer achieved 236p/kg to gross a pleasing £1357.

Simply off the clock, quite possibly the dearest they have ever been!!!! No fat pigs under 200p/kg. The averages very much speak for themselves, with 94 head forward and quality in abundance. Top price for fats 240p twice or £237.66/head. Only one saddleback sow sold to 149p or £348.66.

Porkers topped at 235p from G&M Pawson, Lymn. TJ Nicholls saw pigs to 230p and 219p. J Ball Sandbach to 229p and B Minshull to 227p. 

Cutters sold to 240p from D Goldstraw, B Minshull to 238p, 234p and 225p. J&B Fentem to 238p x2, 228p x2, 227p. C Hine to 232p, RA Hughes to 226p.

Bacon Pigs to 240p from D Goldstraw, J&B Fentem to 239p & 237p. Massie Farms to 239p, 237p x3, 235p. B Minshull to 236p, C Hine to 233p and MK Fradley to 231p.

Only a handful of heavy pigs but quality pigs nonetheless topping at 208p from J Ball and RA Hughes to 206p.

One sow from B Bennison, Nantwich sold to 149p or £348.66. More quality sows are required each week to meet demand.

Whole Entry Average £2228

A blistering trade on Tuesday for dairies saw the entire entry average £2228 with a top of £3320.

Three superb heifers from the Brassington Family of Calf Heath, Wolverhampton, all giving 36-37kg, justly topped the day, all clinched by Andrew Hulme of Basford for £3320, £2940 and £3100 consecutively, to average an amazing £3120.

A tremendous run of five second calvers from the Easom Family of Oakerthorpe peaked at £2540 twice over with all five averaging £2284.

The dairy shed will be full next week with the herd Dispersal on behalf of the Davenport Family where there is a lot of summer milk on offer. Mick Hulse of Consall already has six fresh calvers entered so good numbers in the commercial section also expected.

Nice to see an increase in numbers, and met with a very solid trade, better than expected and better than experienced elsewhere.

Best lambs racing away in 330-360p/kg bracket, topping at 361p from the Williams Family.

Big lambs well bid for, up to 354p/kg for heavies and 330p/kg for overweight. Top headage of £184.80 and heavies averaging £152/head.

More could be sold each week.

Overall average 303p/kg.

More ewes forward, best meated ewes very much in demand and well bid for. A large proportion of hill types and feeding types forward today were met with competitive bidding. Top price £247 for a Texel from Roger Bailey, best Texel types £180+ on a number of occasions.

Best mules to £120

Plainer feeding/hill types £60-80

Tups topped at £178 from the JC&D Hudson, Wetton.

Overall Average a pleasing £110.63

Short on numbers but not on buyers or trade with prices off the clock, once again.

Prices sky high again with the buyers desperate for numbers but with calf numbers low everywhere the buyers are having to work hard. Eight better bulls easily £350+ and up to a high of £428for a lovely Limousin from Messrs Whittaker of Bosley. Mediums £280-£320 with just a handful under £250.
