Another busy Tuesday at Leek 335 cattle sold, 1,129 sheep and 144 Pigs. A strong trade seen in the barren section with prices up to 220p/kg and 218p/kg, with top headage price of £1701.70.
Quality dairies sold very well with lesser qualities harder to place. Top price of £2360 from the Procross dispersal on behalf of DHW Dashwood.
Sheep trade sharper than expected following the end of the festival. Good numbers forward which sold up to 398p/kg or £160.16 per head. Hogget’s to 348p/kg and £202.50 with cull ewes to £170.
Pigs an exceptional trade with 144 entered, selling up to 216p/kg for bacon pigs.
A good entry of calves forward and more buyers, with the best to £350 for British Blue bulls and Blue heifers to £245.

Herefords sold to 192p/kg for a 870kg cow from Marston Park Farm Ltd who also sold a 910kg Hereford for 187p/kg.

A full shed of dairies at Leek on Tuesday saw the best a strong trade with lesser qualities a tad steadier.
Topping the day at £2360 was the last lot sold from the dispersal on behalf of DHW Dashwood. A fresh third calver by TW Goodwhore. She had given 10492kg in her second. She went to Messrs Roberts of Holywell. In-calf heifers topped at £1680 from Messrs Lomas of Calow.
A Montbeliarde second calver by Jeremiah calved in February reached £2240. Hot in pursuit was a milky heifer due in August at £2220. Numerous others were in excess of £2000.
Bulling heifers from Messrs Clark of Bradnop reached £880 with calves from the same home to £200.

An exceptional trade, all types very much in demand. Top price for fats 216p/kg or £212.00/head. A few more sows about topping at 71p/kg. Thanks to all the buyers and vendors, keep the numbers coming.
Porkers were in very strong demand today topping at 214p/kg for 73kg gilts from DB Goldstraw, Meerbrook. Others to 208p/kg for a 66kg pig & 203p/kg for a 63kg pig from C Blackshaw. The average speaks for itself.
Cutting pigs to 212p/kg for DB Goldstraw for 82kg pigs. PF+ PD Parsons, Whitchurch £1saw 207p/kg for 82kg pigs. J&B Fentem had 205p/kg for 77kg pigs and 202p/kg for 84kg pigs.
Bacon pigs topped at 216p/kg from DB Goldstraw for an 88kg pig. Massie farms, Stafford had a run topping at 210p/kg twice for 93 & 89kg pigs, others to 208p/kg x2 & 206p/kg. PF +PD Parsons saw 206p/kg for 86kg pigs. Numerous pens over the 200p/kg mark.
Heavies were also in demand topping at 200p/kg for 106kg pigs from R Rowlinson, Ramshorn. Heavy boars to 178p/g for a 106kg pig from the same home and 170p/kg for a 117kg pig from MR Banham, Bromsgrove
A 231kg clean gilt from R Rowlinson realised 136p/kg or £314.16 in the lump.
Sows topped at 71p/kg for DJ Pope, Buckinghamshire, a run of 5 from the same home realised 60p/kg.

Good numbers but a lot of smaller calves on offer with the spring calving herds, still sending quality but young calves to market. Better tyres as always meet a premium and selling to a high of £350 for a Blue from Graham Turnock, Onecote with the better types generally north of £300. Medium bulls £180 – £270 look well sold with plenty of smaller sorts under £120.
