Store and Breeding Pigs Sale Report 2nd July

Less numbers forward today with 93 head of pig sold. A mixed trade throughout, less store pigs about and much plainer types on offer brought a lower prices. Weaners a better trade on the whole with a better show of pigs. A Large selection of breeding pigs saw in-pig saddleback gilts to a solid trade. Plainer feeding types still remain hard work with the rising feed prices.

Breeding pigs (21)
A large entry in the breeding section, notable price includes an in-pig saddleback gilt from S Bowers, Twemlow realising £210, another in pig saddleback gilt from the same home realised £150, with a saddleback boar from the same home realising £75. A large white Boar from R Shimwell, Hulland Village achieved £50.

Store pigs (20) Average £34.70
A small entry of store pigs with trade slow throughout, lighter weights this month and high feed costs deterred buyers, with plainer sorts on offer. Top prices for S Thompson, Belper for a pen of 8 store pigs weighing 50kg/head realised £38/head. 2 boars from R Shimwell realised £65/head. Plainer types generally trading between £25-30/head.

Weaners (52) Average £30.98
Better trade for weaners this month, better quality weaners on offer, top price from R Watson, Fenny Bentley for a pen of 7 weighing 30kg/head realising £48/head. A Worth, Marton had a pen of 11 weighing 14kg/head to £37/head. Another pen of 11 weighing 17.5kg/head realised £28/head. No weaners below £20/head today.
