Another busy Saturday in the pig shed with yet another record set with 216 head of pigs sold. A mixed entry of pigs with quality varying.
Breeding pigs (20);
A very mixed entry with trade slow throughout.
A mixed entry for breeding pigs 4 sows from G Bretherton, Bury achieved £115 per head. 2 Welsh Gilts from P Rosbottom, Manchester achieved £110 per head, with a further 4 achieving £100, per head.
An in pig gilt from S Thompson, Belper achieved £100.
Store pigs (46);
Store pigs on the whole less on previous weeks averaging £46.87 per head.
Top prices included 11 from Abbotsholme school achieving £48 per head. Other top prices included 5 boars from J Critchlow, Longnor achieving £80 per head, 5 from C Wardle, Sandbach achieved £48 per head.
Weaners (150);
100% sale in the weaners today with a bumper entry, with prices down on the week averaging £25.06 per head. A more mixed quality entry with weaners generally coming in a lot lighter than previous months.
Top prices included 10 from W Smith Basford, achieving £40 per head. A pen of 7 from P J Barker, Loughborough achieved £31 per head.
A run of 50 from W Rigby & Son achieved £30 per head for 4 pens of 10 and £28 for another pen of 10.
Two pens of 8 weaners from A J Robinson, Derby, achieved £30 per head, for some pure-bred Gloucester old spot weaners.
