Store Cattle Report 3rd April

There was an excellent entry of 677 store and breeding cattle on offer with trade just as strong as the last sale with vendors being well satisfied with the prices achieved.

Breeding Section

Top price was a Limousin cow with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot at £1235, £1240 was paid for a Shorthorn cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot, both from J Worthington of Nether Alderley with the same vendor having £1180 for a Hereford cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot. An in calf Simmental cow from A L Johnson of Springhill was well sold at £1110.

Young Bulls

Young bulls topped at £990 for a 26 month old Friesian from Robert Lowndes of Grindon with a 10 month old Limousin from A L Johnson of Litchfield at £955 and a 12 month old British Blue from J Tavernor & Son at £750 with a 10 month old Simmental from J & R Ede of Fole at £740 with a bunch of 4, 10 month old British Blues from Brian Wainwright at £730. Overall average achieved for young bulls was £618.15.

Steers

There were 319 steers on offer with a top price being £1475 for a well finished 23 month old Hereford steer from D & J Haslam of Marston Montgomery with a bunch of 3, 23 month old Herefords from Messrs Turnock of Horton at £1345 and a single 24 month old Hereford again from D & J Haslam at £1275. Six 25 month old Herefords from A Harrison of Kingsley Moor exchanged hands at £1160. Limousin steers from J Gilman and Partners of Bosley topped at £1350 with a bunch of 5, 24 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £1345 and a single 25 month old Limousin from Anders Agricultural of Roston at £1255. Angus steers from C H Bull & Son of Derby sold up to £1335 with a bunch of 3, 21 month old Angus from Messrs Turnock of Horton at £1335 also and a pair of 24 month old Angus from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel at £1250. British Blue steers at 21 months of age from R & M Green & Sons of Whiston sold up to £1255 with Simmentals up to £1305 at 24 months of age from Bottom Lane Farm, Ipstones. Blonde steers from Peter Naden of Cheddleton sold up to £1135 at 28 months of age with Charolais at 22 months of age up to £1085 from Ross Worthington and South Devons up to £1080 for 12 month old cattle from Keith and Alison Wilton of Buxton. Overall average achieved for steers was a very pleasing £918.01. 

Heifers 

Heifers topped at £1400 for a well finished 27 month old Hereford from D & J Haslam of Marston Montgomery with 4 Limousin from James Gilman & Partners of Bosley at £1230 at 24 months of age with other Limousins from P J Beswick & Sons of Rudyard at 23 months of age up to £1200. A 27 month old Simmental heifer from Roberts & Partners of Lower Witherington exchanged hands at £1225 with another from the same vendor of similar age at £1215. Angus heifers from J & D Norbury of Ashley sold at £1195 with Charolais up to £1105 for a 18 month old heifer from R & M Hunter of Quarnford and Blondes up to £1100 for a 28 month old pair of heifers from Peter Naden of Cheddleton. A bunch of 6, 11 month old British Blue heifers from Robert Flower were well sold at £990 with a bunch 3, 11 month old Limousins from Mark Rowlinson at £1180. Overall average achieved for Heifers was a pleasing £857.42.
