A total of 724 Store and Breeding Cattle were entered on Saturday with an excellent trade throughout. Seeing steers to £2410, heifers to £2100 and cows and calves to £2110, the market was very well attended by purchasers from near and far and we would like to thank vendors and customers alike for a successful day.
Breeding Section
A Charolais X cow with a Shorthorn X heifer calf sold to £2110 for A Rowlinson & Sons of Cotton who also had a consignment of in-calf suckler cows with Herefords to £2110, £2000, £1800 Aberdeen Angus to £2020 and Shorthorn to £2000, £1990, £1960 and £1860.
Other breeding cows sold to £2060 for a Hereford from CL Cox of Marchington.
Stock Bulls
A Pedigree Shorthorn bull at 5 years old sold to £2000 for A Rowlinson & Son of Cotton.
Young Bulls
An entry of fifteen Charolais bulls from 8 to 19 months old topped at £1780 (twice) to average £1449 for S Gallimore of Rookery. A pair of 8-month-old Charolais bulls sold to £1580 each for D Byard of Chesterfield.
The overall average for young bulls was a very pleasing £1280.89.
Steers
There were 355 steers on offer with the top thirty achieving over £2220 per head, with a top price of £2410 being achieved for a pair of 20-month-old Limousin from A Millward of Dilhorne, a trio of 24-month-old Limousin sold to £2360 for CC & CJ Lovatt of Rushton Spencer and a pair of 17-month-old Limousin sold to £2150 for GW & MA Hicklin of Onecote.
A pair of 20-month-old Charolais sold to £2370 for G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks, a single Charolais at 21 months old achieved £2290 for G R Weston of Longsdon and a trio at 31 months old sold to £2260 for S Gallimore of Rookery. A pair of 19-month-old Charolais achieved £2240 for G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks and a bunch of four at 18 months old sold to £2220 for Agden Brook Partnership of Altrincham.
A bunch of four Aberdeen Angus at 19 months old sold to £2300 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton, a single 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieved £2250 for O R Jones Agricultural Services of Gnosall and a single at 22 months old sold to £2220 for LAJ Turner & Son of Rownall.
A single 18-month-old British Blue steer sold to £2300 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton and another single at 20 months old achieved £2290 for G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks.
A trio of Shorthorn steers at 23 months old sold to £2240 for A Rowlinson & Sons of Cotton with a pair at 20 months old achieving £2140 for the same vendor and a single at 23 months old sold to £2120 for EB Livestock of Chapel en le Frith.
A trio of Simmental at 17 months old sold to £2190 for Agden Brook Partnership of Altrincham.
A pair of 19-month-old Hereford steers sold to £2100 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton who also had a single at 19 months old to £2090 and a 26-month-old Hereford achieved £2040 for S & J Ryder of Dilhorne.
Longhorn steers sold to £1900 for a single at 22 months old from A Millward of Dilhorne.
Younger cattle sold particularly well with a 14 month old Limousin achieving £2290 for GW & MA Hicklin of Onecote, a 13 month old Limousin sold to £2250 for D Oliver of Chelford, a 12 month old Charolais achieved £1870 for B Pegg of Sturston, a pair of 14 month old Hereford sold to £1810 from D Oliver of Chelford and a trio of South Devon steers at 12 months old achieved £1740 for K & AE Wilton of Buxton.
The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1578.47, an increase of over £57/head on a fortnight ago.
Heifers
There were 287 heifers on offer with the averages a little less on the day but nonetheless, a top price of £2180 was achieved for a British Blue heifer at 30 months old for S & J Ryder of Dilhorne.
A 23-month-old Limousin sold to £2150 for S & J Ryder of Dilhorne with another at 20 months old achieving £2040 for J & D Norbury of Altrincham.
A trio of Charolais at 22 months old sold to £2100 for R Worthington of Edale and a bunch of four Charolais at 19 months sold achieved £2090 for G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks.
A Simmental heifer at 20 months old sold to £2090 for Agden Brook Partnership of Altrincham with a trio at 20 months old achieving £1975 for the same vendor.
A single Aberdeen Angus at 20 months old achieved £2080 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with a bunch of four at 22 months old selling to £2060 for LAJ Turner & Son of Rownall.
A single 24-month-old Hereford sold to £1990 for JF Kirkham of Hartington.
In the younger cattle, a 10-month-old Limousin heifer sold to £1750 for A H & T Carr of Waterfall, a pair of 13-month-old Hereford heifers achieved £1730 for Wilson Groundworks of Leigh and a pair of 12-month-old Charolais sold to £1650 for S Gallimore of Rookery.
The overall average for heifers was £1380.86.
