Store Cattle Sale Report 17th August

>A Total entry of 404 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer with trade
continuing to be very strong in all sections and a good company of buyers in
attendance.

 

Breeding Section

Top price of the day in the breeding section was £2040 for a Charolais
Cow from Messrs Braddock of Hulme, with a young Limousin heifer calf at foot
and being back in calf. Other sucklers sold up to £1460 for a Simmental cow
with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot from Chris Hassall of Oakamoor with a
Limousin cow with a young Limousin bull calf at foot from Paul Brook of
Mayfield at £1470 and a Limousin in-calf cow from the same vendor selling for
£1550. Other in-calf cows, from David & John Bradbury of Ipstones sold up
to £1250 for a 47-month-old Limousin and a 33-month-old Limousin breeding
heifer from N J Williams of Newtown was well sold at £1280.

 

Young Bulls

A shortage of young bulls, with the top price of the day being £1380
for an 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Philip Williams of Tean with the same
vendor selling another 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus for £1340 and Brode Hall Farm
Partnership of Macclesfield realising £1260 for another Aberdeen Angus bull. A young
Limousin bull at 9 months of age, from K Goldstraw of Wetley Rocks, achieved £920.

 

Steers

201 steers were sold with some excellent prices achieved, seeing a top
price of £1770 for a pair of 22-month-old Charolais from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley
Rocks with Aberdeen Angus, at 20 months of age, from Peter Salt of Whiston up
to £1750 and a 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor,
at £1525.

 

A bunch of three 22-month-old Limousin from Robert and Andy Williamson of
Wetley Rocks were well sold at £1650, and a 26-month-old Limousin from Rushton
Spencer sold for £1525 with another pair of 22-month-old Limousin, from Robert
and Andy Williamson, at £1495.

 

Simmental Steers from Rushton Spencer, at 27 months of age, sold up to
£1650 with a pair of Blonde steers, at 27 months of age, from John Carr of Cheddleton,
at £1635 and British Blue steers, at 30 months of age, from Rushton Spencer,
topping at £1600 with a pair at 29 months of age at £1585 and a 26 month old
British Blue from Jason Jervis at £1535.

 

Hereford steers at 28 months of age from LA & MA Done & Son of
Bosley sold up to £1585 with others from Keith Burton, at 23 months of age,
selling up to £1535 for a bunch of three and a pair of 27-month-old Herefords,
from John Carr of Cheddleton, at £1530. A single Flekvieh steer, at 22 months
of age, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, sold for £1495 with Shorthorns up to
£1440 for a 15-month-old from PJ Davenport of Calton and Holsteins up to £1375
from Rushton Spencer and Friesians at 23 months of age from Robert and Andy
Williamson being well sold at £1370. A Brown Swiss steer from Rushton Spencer,
at 30 months of age, sold for £1345.

 

Younger cattle sold up to £930 for a single 9-month-old Limousin from Mrs
K Goldstraw of Wetley Rocks and a 14 month old Saler steer from D & A Dickinson
of Bradbourne at £1150.

 

The overall average for steers was a pleasing £1080.

 

Heifers

There were 181 heifers on offer topping at £1675 for a single 15-month-old
Limousin from Robert and Andy Williamson with other Limousin from the same
vendor at 23 months of age up to £1545 for a bunch of three, £1520 for a single
27-month-old from John Carr of Cheddleton and £1500 for a 26-month-old Limousin
from E Etches of Elkstones.

 

British Blue Heifers from J Mansfield & Son of Ashby de le Zouch, at
18 months old, sold up to £1560 with a bunch of four 25-month-old from D &
D Gould of Waterhouses being well sold at £1530 and a pair of 16-month-old
British Blue heifers, from J Mansfield & Son, at £1500.

 

Hereford heifers from Brian Needham, at 21 months of age, achieved up to
£1500 with a single 27-month-old Hereford heifer from D & D Gould of
Waterhouses at £1480.

 

Simmental heifers from Jason Jervis, at 26 months of age, sold up to
£1430 with Blonde heifers from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook at 23 months of
age at £1425.

 

Holstein heifers from David & Ann Cotton of Whiston, at 24 months of
age, sold up to £1140 with Saler heifers at 22 months of age up to £1060 from E
Richardson from Horsley Woodhouse.

 

Limousin heifers at 12 months of age from Des Alcock of Elkstones sold up
to £950 with a British Blue heifer at 13 months of age from P J Davenport of
Calton at £900.

 

The overall average for heifers was £976 per head.
