Store Cattle Sale Report 18th February 2023

An excellent entry of 602 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer with a lot better show of strong cattle close to finishing, which were particularly well sold.

Breeding Section
There was also a better entry of breeding cattle including a Hereford cow with a Angus male calf at foot from Philip Taylor of Rainow with the cow being PD’d back in calf to the Angus exchanging hands for £1340 with another Hereford cow with an Angus male calf at foot not in calf realising £1190.

An in-calf Blonde cow from Messrs Bilsborrow of Chelford achieved £1270 with a Aberdeen Angus 22 month old stock bull from Messrs Tomlinson of Abbotts Bromley realising £1530. A Blue cow being PD’d in calf to the Charolais 6 months from Messrs Emery of Gratwich achieved £1240 with another Angus cow of similar note from the same vendor at £1200.

Young Bulls
There were 21 young bulls on offer with not the quality of a fortnight ago, seeing a top price of £770 for an 11 month old Simmental bull from John Harper of Ipstones with a 7 month old Limousin from Messrs Smith of Rushton Spencer at £695.

Steers
There were 321 steers on offer with some excellent prices being achieved up to £1880 which was paid for a 21 month old excellent shaped Simmental steer from Philip Nixon of Rushton with a 22 month old Limousin steer from the same vendor at £1785 and another 21 month old again from Mr Nixon at £1770 and a 23 month old Limousin from Steve Machin of Stanley at £1710.

A 20 month old from Robert and Andy Williamson of Wetley Rocks was again well sold at £1695 with 6 more lots of Limousin steers selling in excess of £1550.

Blonde steers again from Philip Nixon at 17 months of age sold for £1760 with a 21 month old Blonde Steer from the same vendor at £1750 and a 20 month old Blonde from George Norbury of Chelford at £1480 at 20 months of age.

A Fleckvieh steer from Mollatt Partnership at 21 months of age realised £1535 with an Angus steer at 22 months of age from George Norbury at £1470 and a 15 month old Angus from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at £1375.

Hereford steers at 17 months of age from Mollatt Partnership topped at £1295 with another 18 month old Hereford from George Norbury at £1270 and a 25 month old Hereford from Keith Burton of Beamhurst at £1235.

Charolais steers at 17 months of age from Curbishley Farms Ltd of Congleton sold for £1175 with a bunch of 5 excellent shaped Charolais steers from Brookbank Farm Ltd selling particularly well for £1170.

Other younger cattle sold up to £1190 for a 10 month old Limousin from Andrew and Tim Carr and Family of Waterfall with 3, 9 month old British Blue steers from Robert Flower selling for £1110 and 4, 9 month old Limousin’s from Des Alcock of Elkstones at £1070.

Overall average achieved for steers was a pleasing £854.17. 

Heifers
There were 235 heifers with a top price of £1655 for a good shaped Angus heifer at 29 months of age from Robert and Andy Williamson of Wetley Rocks with Blonde heifers at 13 months of age up to £1550 from Philip Nixon of Rushton and Limousin’s at 26 months of age from Robert and Andy Williamson at £1495 and another bunch of 3, 21 month old Limousin’s from the same vendor at £1490 and a 19 month old from Colin Machin at £1450.

Simmental heifers at 21 months of age from John Harper of Ipstones Edge were well bid for at £1390 with British Blue heifers from Robert and Andy Williamson at 21 months of age up to £1390 and another bunch of 3, 21 month old Simmentals from Pilkington Farms at £1290.

Charolais heifers from Messrs Swindells of Bosley topped at £1230. A Stabiliser x 10 month old heifer from F Hardy of Fenny Bentley achieved £950. A pair of 15 month old Limousin heifers from Messrs Riley of Sutton at £930 and 3, 9 month old Charolais heifers from Brookbank Farm Ltd at £860.

Overall average achieved was £797.38.
