A good entry of 555 store and breeding cattle were on offer with plenty of trade for all sections.
Breeding Section
There were more breeding cattle about including a dispersal on behalf of Mr Tom Thornley of Stanton which sold well and topped at £2,000 for a pedigree Limousin cow with a young Limousin heifer calf at foot with other similar outfits at £1980, £1920 and £1880.
Other sucklers from the same vendor sold up to £1690 for a Blonde cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot and £1660 for a British Blue cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot with several others selling for in excess of £1500.
Other suckler cows from Linda Kirkham of Hartington sold up to £1740 for a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot with a Bazadaise cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot from the same farmer at £1680.
A dairy Shorthorn cow with 2 Shorthorn bull calves at foot from BJ & A Beech of Sutton sold at £1470 with feeding cows from Chris Gabbott and Family of Rainow up to £960.
A pedigree Simmental bull from P & MA Lovatt of Biddulph sold well for £1700 with Mr Thornley’s pedigree Hereford bull exchanging hands for £1600 at 4 years old.
Young Bulls
In the young bull section top price sold up to £1040 for a 12 month old Limousin from Brian Goldstraw of Winkhill with a pair of 12 month old Simmentals from Pilkingtons farms of Hartington at £935 and a bunch of 3, 13 month old Limousin’s from F Potter & Son of Yeaveley at £810.
There were a number of smaller bulls on offer with the average being £633.00 a head.
Steers
There were 242 steers on offer with some excellent prices see a top price of £1520 for a 21 month old British Blue steer from P & MA Lovatt of Biddulph with a 15 month old British Blue steer from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook at £1085.
Limousin steers from Tony Gilman of Elkstones at 23 months of age topped at £1470 with a bunch of 11, 12 month old Limousin’s from F Potter & Son of Yeaveley selling particularly well for £1175. The same price was paid for another bunch of 8 from the same farmer at 15 months of age with Brian Hudson of Ipstones selling a 19 month old Limousin for £1130.
A 22 month old Charolais from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington topped at £1380 with Angus steers from D H Jones & Sons of Barnshaw at £1265 and a pair of 23 month old Angus from KW Dakin & Son of Macclesfield at £1235 and another single 24 month old Angus from D H Jones & Son at £1200.
Hereford steers at £1175 from Harry Phillips of Blackshaw Moor at 22 months of age for a pair with a single 20 month old Hereford from WD & HM Seabridge of Barlaston at £1150.
Simmental steers from A & L Worthington of Knutsford topped at £1090 for a pair of 14 month old Simmentals with a 22 month old Blonde steer from TE Gilman of Congleton at £1070.
3 Shorthorn steers at 13 months of age at £980 from D & Z Partners of Warslow.
Other younger cattle sold up to £960 for Simmental 11 month old steers from JM Robinson of Swythamley, £910 for 12 month old Simmentals from A & L Worthington of Knutsford and £850 for 11 month old Charolais from Waller Farms of Sutton.
Overall average for steers was £816.65.
Heifers
Heifers topped at £1615 for a well finished bunch of 3 Limousins from DJ Boulton & Sons of Wolseley Bridge with the same vendors selling more 26 month old cattle for £1485 and a pair of 24 month old Limousins from £1480.
Other Limousins sold up to £1240, again from Messrs Boulton with Messrs Seabridge of Barlaston realising up to £1175 for 16 and 17 month old heifers.
A pair of 24 month old Charolais from C & EJ Whilcock of Werrington sold well at £1370 with a 26 month old Simmental from Chris Gabbott and Family achieving £1140 with British Blue heifers up to £1100 at 16 months of age from Brian Wainwright with Angus up to £1040 for 24 month old cattle from DH Jones & Sons of Barnshaw and Montbeliarde heifers at 27 months of age up to £1040 from Buxton Partners of Barlaston.
Young cattle sold up to £800 for a pair of 10 month old Limousin heifers from K L Potts of Mottram St Andrews with a pair of 10 month old Simmentals from J M Robinson of Swythamley at £780.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £756 a head
