Total entry of 462 of store and breeding cattle on offer with a shortage of best quality cows with calves at foot with young bulls being particularly well sold as indeed were the stronger store cattle.
Breeding Section
Cows with calves at foot sold up to £950 for an Angus heifer with an Angus bull calf at foot from John Froggatt of Stafford with a similar outfit from the same vendor at £910. An Angus heifer with an Angus bull calf at foot from WS Bartlam of Grindley sold for £910 with the same price being paid for a Hereford cow with a Hereford heifer calf at foot from AE & K Simpson of Winkhill.
A Black and White heifer from VM & GW Hall of Uttoxeter at 29 months of age having run with a bull was well sold at £900.
Young Bulls
There was some excellent prices with £1110 being paid for a 15 month old Limousin bull from Messrs Goldstraw of Winkhill with another 15 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £1080 and a bunch of 6 Limousin, 15 month old bulls from Paul Brook of Mayfield were particularly well sold at £1060.
A 11 month old Limousin from FW Kirkham of King Sterndale sold for £810 with the overall average for young bulls being £753.18 including a number of smaller sorts.
Steers
There were 182 steers on offer with the top price of the day being £1225 for a 22 month old Angus from R Beech of Longsdon with a bunch of 4, 25 month old Angus from Beryl Kirkham of Leek at £1020 and a pair of 19 month old Angus from Messrs Botham of Calton at £1125.
£1090 was paid for a pair of 17 month old Angus from Robert Flower of Alstonefield with a single 26 month old Angus from Ken Gould of Thorncliffe at £1050.
Limousins topped at £1215 for a 26 month old beast from MH & S Buxton of Yoxall with a pair of 29 month old Limousins from James Gilman & Partners of Bosley at £1185, another single 29 month old Limousin from the same vendors at £1145 with a 19 month old Limousin from AP Wain of Draycott at £1095.
A single 23 month old British Blue Steer from Richard Beech of Longsdon sold for £1175 with a bunch of 4, 20 month old bullocks from RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks at £1140 and a single 19 month old from AP Wain of Draycott at £1080.
A 22 month old Simmental from Richard Beech of Longsdon sold for £1085 with Herefords up to £1025 for a 19 month old beast from Robert Flower of Alstonefield with a bunch of 4, 19 month old Charolais from G Weston of Longsdon at £995, a Bazadaise at 19 months of age at £960 from A Buxton of Bollington with a 20 month old Fleckveih steer from E Docksey & Sons from Bagnall at £815.
Younger cattle sold up to £890 for a pair of 9 month old Angus from AE Allcock of Waterhouses with a pair of 10 month old Limousins from A Hayes of Alstonefield at £840 and a single 10 month old Limousin from SB Mellor & Sons at £825.
Overall average achieved for steers was £794.29.
Heifers
There were 217 heifers on offer with the top price being £1120 for a pair of 24 months old Herefords from Beryl Kirkham of Leek with Angus up to £1115 for 25 month old cattle from the same vendor with others from the same vendor also at £1105 and £1030 of similar age.
British Blue Heifers from RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks at 21 months of age sold for £1005 with a single 20 month old British Blue heifer from E Docksey & Sons of Bagnall at £985 and a bunch of 6, 22 month old British Blue heifers selling well from R Tipping & Sons of Smallwood at £935.
R Shore of Biddulph sold a pair of 20 month old Simmentals for £995 with a bunch of 3 Limousins at 27 months of age at £995 also from J Gilman & Partners of Bosley.
Younger cattle achieved up to £825 for a 10 month old Limousin heifer from SB Mellor & Sons with an overall average of £686.30 for heifers.
