Store Cattle Sale Report 24th September 2022

An excellent entry of 618 store and breeding cattle were on offer, with a shortage of a good entry of cows with calves at foot.

Breeding Section
Top price of £1440 paid for a Shorthorn cow with a strong Angus heifer calf at foot from Messrs Green of Whiston. A pedigree Angus cow with a pedigree Angus heifer calf at foot from Messrs Griffin of Alstonefield at £1190.

A Limousin cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot from James Burke of Green Lane exchanged hands for £1250. An Aberdeen Angus x cow free of the bull from Steve Branson sold well for £1140. A pedigree 43 month old Simmental bull from Tony Freeman of Brereton exchanged hands for £1220.

Young Bulls
There was only a small entry of young bulls which topped at £1220 for a 4 month old Simmental bulls from George Bailey of Rushton.

Steers
There were 310 steers on offer with a top price being £1570 for a pair of 29 month old Herefords from Eddie Simpson of Waterfall with a bunch of 3, 19 month old Hereford steers from Reg Simcock & Family of Endon selling well at £1355 and a 29 month old Hereford from Mr AB Smith of Uttoxeter at £1220.

4 good quality Limousin steers at 18 months of age from Peter Richardson of Ipstones sold for £1395 and a pair of 17 month old Limousin’s from DH & J Lovatt of Rushton at £1365 and a pair from the same vendor at 17 months of age at £1290.

Shorthorn steers from Bottom Lane Farm, sold up to £1385 at 19 months of age with Simmental steers at 22 months of age topping at £1310 and Blonde steers from Reg Simcock & Family at 17 months of age selling for £1285.

A bunch of 3 strong Friesian steers at 22 months of age sold for £1270 with British Blue steers from CC & CJ Lovatt of Rushton at £1255 at 19 months of age with a pair of 21 month old British Blue steers from Messrs James of Endon at £1215.

14 month old Limousin steers from Andrew and Tim Carr were well sold at £1165 with Charolais steers at 16 months of age from Graham Weston selling for £1025 and Fleckvieh steers at 21 months of age from R Hall & Sons of Uttoxeter at £1000.

A bunch of 4, Holstein steers at 26 months of age from Graham Vickers of Endon sold for £980 with a 12 month old Limousin steer from Sam Hudson & Family at £960 and a 13 month old Simmental steer from Ben Rowlinson of Bottomhouse at £940.

Overall average achieved for steers was £835.00

Heifers
There were 270 heifers on offer which topped at £1385 for a bunch of 3 Angus at 24 months of age from S Pennington & Son of New Hall Farm with a single 27 month old Angus heifer from John Bailey of Gayton at £1130.

Limousin heifers from JL Mellor & Partners of Sutton at 22 months of age were well sold up to £1330 with a bunch of 3, 24 months of age from the same vendor at £1285 and 4 from WH Rose & Sons of Stanton at £1250 at 27 months of age.

A Shorthorn heifer from P & C Palfreyman of Monyash sold for £1170 with another Shorthorn at 21 months of age at £1110. British Blue heifers achieved up to £1120 for a bunch of 4, 26 months of age with Simmental heifers from Malcolm and Clive Whilock & Family of Ipstones at 22 months of age at £1100.

Fleckvieh heifers at 22 months of age from R Hall & Sons of Uttoxeter sold for £1090. Blonde heifers from A Slater & Sons of Mayfield sold for £1065 at 22 months of age with Charolais heifers at 25 months of age from AM Gray of Sheffield at £990 and Longhorn heifers at 26 months of age at £960 from Graham Vickers of Endon.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £780.11
